In a crucial match at Worlds 2025 against Fnatic, Movistar KOI’s AD carry, Supa, chose to play Vayne. He explained the pick was a tribute to legendary player Uzi.
During the League of Legends 2025 World Championship’s Swiss Stage, MKOI’s star player David “Supa” Martínez García chose Vayne in a crucial match to try and keep their tournament hopes alive. While European League of Legends fans were disappointed to see MKOI defeat fellow EU team Fnatic, the decisive third game of the series featured an exciting Vayne pick. Supa explained his choice simply: he made the pick as a tribute to the legendary player Uzi.
Supa’s Vayne in Worlds 2025
After seeing Fnatic choose Azir, Ezreal, Trundle, and Rell (played by Mikyx), MKOI selected Vayne as their AD carry. They had previously picked Braum. Choosing Vayne in response to Rell was a bold and potentially risky move for MKOI.
Vayne has a significant advantage when facing Rell. Rell relies on getting close to enemies with abilities like Crash Down and Mount Up, both of which involve a setup and follow-through. Vayne’s Condemn can consistently interrupt these abilities, giving her an edge in the matchup.
Supa played Vayne exceptionally well, using her ability to become invisible to his advantage in team fights. He even managed to fend off an attack while playing in the middle lane. By the 15-minute mark, Supa had a significant lead, with 4 kills and 1 death, and was 1,100 gold ahead of his lane opponent.
He finished the match with a score of 8 kills, 1 death, and 11 assists while playing Vayne, eliminating Fnatic from contention at the 2025 World Championship (excluding the initial play-in stage featuring Invictus Gaming).
“We’re in China, so it’s for Uzi.”
After the game, Candice asked Supa why he chose to play Vayne. He explained that it was partially a tribute to the famous player Jian “Uzi” Zihao.
Supa explained he wanted to win with Uzi, since they were playing in China, which received a big reaction from the audience. Candice even expressed her appreciation for him thinking of that. He jokingly added that he couldn’t afford to lose while playing Vayne in China.
Uzi was famous for consistently playing Vayne. He was so skilled with the champion that he became only the second player inducted into the Hall of Legends, and a special Vayne skin was created to celebrate his achievements.
Vayne’s professional presence throughout the years
Prior to the 2025 World Championship, Supa last used Vayne in a professional match during the 2023 SuperLiga Summer Playoffs. Playing as AD carry for Movistar Riders against BISONS ECLUB, that game resulted in a loss—a different outcome than his recent performance against Fnatic.
Actually, Supa hasn’t been very successful with Vayne. He’s only won three games while playing her, despite a win with Fnatic, and has lost four times.
Most recently, Upset played Vayne in a professional match during the LEC 2025 Summer Playoffs against GIANTX. His team, Fnatic, won the game, helping them qualify for the 2025 World Championship.
During the play-in stage of the 2024 World Championship, PSG Talon’s top laner, Huang “Azhi” Shang-Jhih, successfully used the champion Vayne in a match against Pain Gaming. Vayne was a popular choice for top lane players last year, particularly as a strong counter to K’Sante. She proved highly effective in this role at MSI 2024, winning six out of eight games – all against K’Sante.
While some players occasionally choose her as a surprise champion, she hasn’t been prominently played at the World Championship since 2020. Back then, Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage, playing for FlyQuest, successfully used her against Lev “Nomanz” Yakshin’s Kassadin, winning the game with an impressive 11 kills and only 1 death.
Recently, Vayne hasn’t been a popular pick in the bot lane. The last time an AD carry player used Vayne in a professional game was Chiu “Doggo” Tzu-Chuan of Beyond Gaming against Hanwha Life during the 2021 Worlds play-ins, but his team lost. Before that, Lin “Lwx” Wei-Xiang of FunPlus Phoenix won two games with Vayne at Worlds 2019. FPX ultimately won that World Championship, and Lwx selected Vayne as the champion for his commemorative Worlds skin.
Uzi last played Vayne at the League of Legends World Championship in 2017 during the Semifinals against SK Telecom T1, facing off against Faker’s Tristana. He had a perfect game, going 6/0/3 without dying, and led his team, RNG, to a win in that match. However, SKT ultimately won the series, and this marked Uzi’s final appearance on the international competitive stage.
Vayne in your solo queue games
I’ve been following the latest League of Legends stats, and it’s cool to see Vayne doing pretty well in patch 25.20! She’s currently winning about 52% of her games in Emerald ranks and above, which makes her a solid choice for an AD carry. It’s just a little strange that she isn’t picked as often as some other popular marksmen like Jinx, Ashe, or Kai’Sa. In fact, she’s picked about half as much as those champs – or even just a quarter as much as Kai’Sa! I think she’s a really strong pick when I get the chance to play her.
Her stats haven’t changed much in recent updates, which isn’t surprising since she wasn’t altered in the latest patch. Her last significant update was over a year ago, in patch 14.22, when her ultimate ability received a small damage boost. While she did get a minor buff in patch 25.17, it only improved her damage to monsters, not her effectiveness against other players.
Could Vayne be played at Worlds this year? It’s possible! We’ve seen surprising champion choices work well when teams are prepared, like Caps playing Anivia. Expect more unexpected picks at Worlds 2025, potentially starting with Vayne.
