Keri Russell, 49, SLAMS plastic surgery trends in Hollywood and admits it feels ‘strange’ to look natural

Keri Russell recently discussed the unrealistic beauty expectations and increasing popularity of plastic surgery within the Hollywood film industry.

The 49-year-old actress talked about how much she relates to her character, U.S. Ambassador Kate Wyler, on the show *The Diplomat*. The character often faces judgment for choosing to wear little to no makeup.

The actress from Felicity said she enjoys how she appears on screen, but finds it odd to feel natural when there’s so much pressure to look perfect.

She recently told People magazine that being a woman feels strange because everyone constantly comments on her appearance – her clothes, her hair, and how she looks overall.

My friends and I are always discussing it. Plastic surgery is really popular right now – it’s not just for older people either, people of all ages are getting it. It’s become very common,” the actress explained.

We see movie stars everywhere, and it’s remarkable how great they look, even at 50 or 60 years old.

She continued, explaining that when she watches the show, she realizes she doesn’t resemble the people on it. She actually likes how she appears on screen, and finds it surprising that feeling is unusual – that looking a certain way feels unique.

She explained that this is simply how society works, but added that playing her character is also genuinely fun and enjoyable.

Russell continued, saying he enjoyed her feisty and confrontational attitude, even when she was being rude. He found it charming and amusing.

She recently shared with the publication that she was pleased the show acknowledged the ongoing conversation about her hair.

In the fourth episode of the third season, her character has a short, critical exchange with an agent who is pretending to be her, pointing out that the agent’s hair looks messy.

‘It’s not like I don’t wash it. I do. And I comb it,’ her character says.

It’s about a relaxed look – like you don’t spend ages on your hair, because you have better things to worry about. It’s *not* about looking messy because you’re having car trouble.

Season 3 of The Diplomat is currently streaming on Netflix.

Keri co-stars with Rufus Sewell, 55, who plays her husband.

The Diplomat centers around Kate, played by Keri, as she begins her role as the U.S. ambassador to the UK. The show follows her efforts to resolve global issues and build relationships with other nations.

The character also has to manage her deteriorating marriage to Rufus.

Rory Kinnear and David Gyasi also appear in the political series, playing the roles of the UK Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary, respectively.

The Netflix series was created by former The West Wing and Homeland writer Deborah Cahn.

Keri is also a producer on the series, a first for her illustrious career.

She first became well-known on The All New Mickey Mouse Club, but she’s best remembered for playing the main character, Felicity, in the TV show of the same name – a role that truly shaped her career.

She starred as Felicity Porter, a young woman who starts college at New York University hoping to be near the boy she likes.

As a lifestyle expert, I remember the collective gasp when Felicity Porter made *that* hair decision back in 1999! The show had so many dedicated fans, and her long, curly hair was a huge part of her look. When she chopped it all off, it genuinely shocked and upset a lot of viewers – it was a real pop culture moment!

During the show, they asked if they could cut my hair, and I agreed. It fit the character – she wasn’t meant to be glamorous, but rather a bit of a nerdy and sensitive college student.

I realized all my friends seemed to get bad haircuts after breakups. It was like a pattern, so I thought it was a perfect fit for what I needed.

‘But it was crazy. People were very upset by that haircut. Sorry.’
