Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! I nearly fainted when I saw the pictures. Gwyneth Paltrow, *Gwyneth Paltrow*, was practically glued to Timothée Chalamet, like, full-on kissing him with her face buried in his neck! Seriously, every single one of us Timothée fans was totally jealous. It was… everything. I’ve screenshotted it, printed it, it’s my new wallpaper. I’m still reeling!
Last year in Central Park, New York City, the stars of the movie *Marty Supreme* – he playing ping-pong champion Marty Mauser and she as his love interest, Kay Stone – were filmed sharing a close embrace. She was wearing long black gloves during the scene.
Timothée Chalamet, 29, has been very complimentary of the actress, who has transitioned into a wellness advocate. While promoting their new film, he praised her as a ‘master’ and an ‘amazing artist’.
Although Gwyneth Paltrow, 53, and her co-star clearly had great chemistry and enjoyed working together, reports suggest she wasn’t the first choice for the role – another famous actress was also being considered.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been hearing buzz that the part was originally intended for Julia Roberts! It’s interesting because this isn’t the first time Gwyneth Paltrow has seemingly benefited from something previously connected to another actress – it’s happened before, and it’s definitely sparked some conversation.
Julia Roberts, 57, reportedly hesitated to star alongside Timothée Chalamet, 28, because of their significant age difference and worried their pairing wouldn’t feel believable in the movie. Despite producers offering her more and more money, she remained unconvinced.

Okay, so I’m hearing from my sources that Julia was actually offered a fantastic part! She was really excited about the potential of working with Timothée, which is totally understandable – they’d be amazing together. But, she ended up declining, and it wasn’t because she didn’t *like* the script – she actually loved it! The issue was, she had concerns about how the audience would perceive the age gap if she played a romantic lead opposite someone much younger. She’s a smart actress and really thought about the bigger picture.
Timothée and the other filmmakers really wanted Julia to join the project and worked hard to persuade her, even increasing her salary offer to nearly $20 million. However, she continued to decline.
I heard from someone close to the project that Josh Safdie really envisioned Julia Fox nailing the character – he thought she’d be perfect. Apparently, she did like the script and is a huge fan of Timothée Chalamet, but ultimately, she just didn’t feel a personal connection to the role and couldn’t see herself bringing it to life.
Even after watching the trailer, she’s confident she made the right choice and that Gwyneth will be amazing.
Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie, tells the story of Marty Reisman, nicknamed ‘The Needle,’ a highly skilled and famous American table tennis player.
Born and raised in New York City, this champion athlete won almost two dozen major tournaments between 1946 and 2002. He first learned the sport as a child in the Lower East Side and initially played to earn money.
He and his partner, Douglas Cartland, eventually opened for the Harlem Globetrotters, entertaining the crowd with a funny table tennis act that involved playing with frying pans.
Known for his rebellious personality, the athlete had a scandalous personal life. His first marriage began while the woman was still married to someone else, and her husband famously discovered him hiding naked in a closet. He later married Yoshiko Reisman, and they had a daughter named Debbie.

In the movie, Mauser begins a relationship with Stone, played by Paltrow, a former Hollywood star who is thinking about acting again.
Before agreeing to the movie, which blended fact and fiction, Gwyneth Paltrow was already starting to move away from acting.
Gwyneth Paltrow, married to producer Brad Falchuk, lessened her focus on acting to dedicate herself to goop, the wellness company she started in 2008. Goop has since become a successful business, now worth around $250 million.
Speaking to a panel back in 2023 she said ‘never say never’ to a return to the silver screen.
I remember her saying she wasn’t sure what she’d do next, but she hinted at possibilities! She basically said that if she wasn’t so focused on Goop, and a really close friend asked her to join them in a new venture, she’d definitely think about it. It felt like a little opening, a glimpse into what she *might* do if things changed.
Apparently, Gwyneth Paltrow agreed to appear in the film after her daughter, Apple, found out Timothée Chalamet was both starring in and producing it.
According to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail last year, Gwyneth Paltrow agreed to appear alongside Timothée Chalamet because her daughter is a longtime fan.
Once Gwyneth explained to Apple that Timothée was both producing and starring in the project, she begged her mother to agree.

She last appeared in a major film role in the 2019 Marvel movie *Avengers: Endgame*, where she once again played Pepper Potts, the girlfriend of Iron Man.
She recently appeared in Netflix’s *The Politician*, and also provided voice work for the 2022 film *She Said* and an episode of the 2023 series *American Horror Stories*.
Gwyneth Paltrow, whose parents are director Bruce Paltrow and actress Blythe Danner, got her start in acting thanks to her godfather, Steven Spielberg, who cast her in the 1991 film *Hook*. She later gained wider recognition in the 1995 movie *Se7en*.
Four years after that, she won the Best Actress Academy Award for her performance as Viola de Lesseps in *Shakespeare in Love*. The role was originally offered to Julia Roberts, but she turned it down, costing the studio a significant amount of money.
As a huge fan of the film, I was fascinated to read Ed Zwick’s account of how close it never came to being made! Apparently, Universal only greenlit it once Julia Roberts showed interest. She really wanted Daniel Day-Lewis to play Romeo, even sending him roses and a sweet note, but when that didn’t work out, she wasn’t happy with the other actors and ultimately walked away from the $6 million project. Thankfully, Harvey Weinstein at Miramax stepped in and eventually got it made with Ralph Fiennes – and we all know how iconic that version is!
Unlike Zwick, who said he has ‘never spoken’ to Roberts since, Chalamet might have more luck.
According to a source, Julia sent Timothée a lovely handwritten note to explain why she couldn’t take the part, but she expressed her hope that they could collaborate on a project together someday.
They’d had the typical conversation about needing to find shared interests to make things work, but unlike some who just say that to be polite, they both genuinely meant it, according to the other person.
