Carol Vorderman has shared that she’s been quite ill recently, explaining why she’s had to take a break from her work.
The 64-year-old presenter had to leave her LBC radio show last year because of burnout, which led to her needing hospital treatment.
After consistently working seven days a week for several weeks, Carol realized she had overextended herself. Following her success in landing her own show on the station in 2023, she decided to take a step back and prioritize her well-being.
Carol Vorderman recently shared with the Mirror that she’s feeling much better, having found the right medication after a difficult year. She’s regained her confidence and energy just in time to host the annual Pride of Britain Awards.
She told the publication: ‘This year has been a bit hellish health-wise.
I’ve been dealing with a separate health issue that wasn’t connected to my burnout. Thankfully, the medication is working, and I’m finally feeling like myself again after about a month. I’m ready to take on anything!

She shared that she’s been leaning on her close friends for support and to help her make the most of her time off.
Carol shared that she’s enjoyed many short trips and vacations with a variety of friends – including lifelong female friends and members of the LGBTQ+ community. She’s also gotten back into horse racing and has traveled extensively, visiting places in the US, France, and all over the world.
This follows Carol’s recent disclosure of her skincare routine, which she uses to keep her skin looking young, after facing ongoing speculation about whether she’s had cosmetic surgery.
The television host, celebrating her 65th birthday in December, has always insisted she hasn’t had cosmetic surgery. In a recent interview, she revealed the surprising secret to her youthful skin.
Carol shared that she gets expensive facials involving injections of plasma from her own blood, hoping to keep her skin’s collagen levels up.
Often called the ‘vampire facial’ because it uses a patient’s own blood, this treatment is popular with celebrities like Kim Kardashian and can cost over £1,000 each time.
During the interview, Carol mentioned the ‘five special friends’ she’d talked about before, and explained that after being single for fifteen years, she isn’t looking for a long-term relationship.

Carol recently told Heat Magazine that she gets a treatment every four months where her blood is drawn, processed with substances like polynucleotides, and then re-injected into her skin.
It helps slow down the loss of collagen in your skin, and while it’s fantastic, it is quite expensive. I love it so much I wish I could use it all over! I also use Botox, and I’m considering a facelift in the future.
Okay, so I’ve been researching this *amazing* treatment, and it’s basically where they take your own blood – seriously, *your* blood! – and spin it in this machine called a centrifuge. It separates out this super-concentrated part of your blood, this plasma packed with proteins, and then they inject *that* into your skin. Apparently, it’s like a fountain of youth – aestheticians swear it makes your skin look so much younger! I’m completely obsessed with trying it.
I’ve been following Carol’s story for a while now, and it’s been fascinating to hear her talk more openly about her relationships. She first mentioned having ‘special friends’ back in 2023, and recently she’s shared even more details about those connections. It’s great that she’s being so honest about what that looks like for her.
She said: ‘I’m not going to talk about how many friends I now have – or don’t!
Honestly, I’m really enjoying being single right now. I’ve had a few relationships that lasted around a year, but I’ve been mostly single for the past fifteen years, and I’m happy with that.
I’m surrounded by wonderful people – my family is very close, I have amazing friends, and I’m lucky to have two children. Because of all that, I don’t feel like I’m missing anything, including a romantic relationship.
Carol recently responded to criticism about getting Botox, stating she doesn’t worry about what others think when it comes to aging.
She recently told The Sunday Times Magazine that cosmetic procedures like Botox are common among people on television. She explained that she chooses to get Botox because it makes her feel good.
Eventually, you reach a stage where you stop worrying about what others think. I really connect with David Bowie’s take on getting older: he said you finally become the person you were always meant to be.
I feel like I’ve finally become the person I was always meant to be, now that I’m in my sixties. I receive a lot of negativity, but it doesn’t bother me at all – in fact, it motivates me.

She explained that she’s never had breast augmentation, but her bust size increased by three cup sizes during menopause.
The mathematician has spoken openly about her relationships, emphasizing that all of her partners are single. She also says she’d be okay if any of them decided to pursue other relationships.
Carol has clearly resonated with younger people because she’s open and honest about dating, without being overly graphic.
She said with a laugh, ‘I’m still seeing those people, and it’s going really well for me.’
Oh my gosh, there are *five* of them! She told me all about how she’s known one for eleven years – eleven! – and another for seven. It’s so sweet! And the best part? Her kids, Katie and Cameron, they practically grew up with these guys. Katie’s 31 and Cameron’s 25, so they’ve known most of them for ages. It’s like one big family, honestly. I just adore how close they all are!
Carol enjoys the freedom and independence this arrangement provides. She understands her partners might desire a more traditional, intimate relationship, and that’s okay – as long as everyone is honest about their needs and enjoys themselves.
She explained that she doesn’t get jealous and genuinely celebrates her friends’ happiness, no matter who they’re with.
My main goal isn’t finding romance; it’s simply to be happy. I’m naturally curious about people and enjoy experiencing life.
Eventually, you reach a point where you can focus on doing only the things you truly love. It’s hard to do that in your thirties when you’re building a career and answering to a boss. But by your sixties…
Carol has been single since her separation from Des Kelly in 2007. She’s been married twice before: to Christopher Mather from 1985 to 1986, and to Patrick King from 1990 to 2000, with whom she has two children.
