Guy Sebastian’s lavish lifestyle raises eyebrows as star plays to tiny crowds of just eight in JB Hi-Fi while living in a $7million Sydney mansion

Once the golden boy of Australian pop, Guy Sebastian now performs to crowds of under 100. 

Yet he still lives like a megastar, and insiders are asking how he keeps the money rolling in.

Guy Sebastian, the first winner of Australian Idol, enjoys a luxurious lifestyle. He lives in a multi-million-dollar home in Sydney and often socializes with celebrities like Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

Singer Guy Sebastian’s lavish $7 million home in Maroubra, described as a ‘fortress,’ reflects his well-known preference for high-end items, like his $725 Balenciaga T-shirts.

He also spent a lot of money on things like a $675,000 property in Queensland, a private tennis court, and a high-end grand piano.

Recently, Australian artists have been finding it harder to sell records and stay on the charts for long. This has led fans and music experts to wonder: how is Guy Sebastian able to maintain his success?

Guy continues to be a remarkably dedicated musician. He frequently appears in unexpected places to connect with fans and promote his work, demonstrating that even as interest in Australian music generally declines, his own enthusiasm remains strong.

Last August, the 43-year-old artist visited a shopping center in the Darwin suburbs to promote his tenth album, “100 Times Around the Sun.”

Although the store said about 40 people waited to meet Guy at the JB Hi-Fi in Casuarina Square, Daily Mail reporters who were there counted only eight.

He performed his new song, “Get it Done,” at Westfield Parramatta, but most of the people watching didn’t seem very interested.

Videos of Guy Sebastian singing his 2009 song “Like It Like That” quickly spread online, and some fans wondered why such a famous singer was playing to a small audience. However, he seemed genuinely happy to be performing, despite the modest crowd size.

Daily Mail has approached both Guy and his record label Sony Music for comment.

This was a big shift for the singer, who previously toured Australia to packed venues in 2015 with his Madness Tour.

He played shows at famous arenas like Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and Sydney’s Qantas Credit Union Arena.

Just ten years ago, she was a star known for her hit song “Angels Brought Me Here.” Now, she’s playing free shows at local shopping malls, often for audiences of less than 100 people.

I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter about Guy lately, with people wondering how he’s still living so well. They’re curious because he hasn’t seemed to change his lifestyle at all, and everyone’s asking how he’s managing it all. Looking at sales figures, it’s clear his recent work hasn’t performed as strongly. His 2025 album, ‘100 Times Around the Sun,’ briefly reached number two on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart, but quickly dropped out of the top 50. His last single to reach the top 50 was ‘Standing with You’ back in 2020.

Despite his financial troubles, the singer, known for ‘Battle Scars,’ still lives in a large house in Maroubra, playfully called ‘Fort Guy.’ The property covers 1,400 square meters – over three times the size of most homes in Sydney.

Estimates of his wealth put it between $13.3 million and $15.5 million, according to sources that track celebrity finances.

His substantial wealth comes from a variety of sources built up over many years, including ongoing royalties from his music, record sales, and prominent television appearances. Notably, he earned over $1 million coaching on multiple seasons of the reality show, The Voice Australia.

But last year he lost that gig, leaving a large dent in his pocket.  

In 2022, Guy began a costly legal battle with his previous manager, Titus Day, over unpaid earnings. This lawsuit brought further scrutiny to Guy’s financial situation and how he supports his expensive lifestyle.

The trial brought to light details of Guy’s earnings, including a $494,360 payment for performing as a support act for Taylor Swift during four shows on her 2013 Australian Red Tour.

In November 2024, Guy received $100,000 for performing at the wedding of well-known accountant Anthony Bell and Annika Martyn.

In July 2017, he earned $54,341 performing at a wedding in Jakarta. He also received $10,000 for a wedding performance at Doltone House in Sydney the following September.

The singer earned a significant amount of money from exclusive performances. In one month, McDonald’s paid him $66,000 to appear at their conference, and Harvey Norman paid $33,000 for a performance in August 2017.

Like many singers, he also performs at corporate events, festivals, and charity functions, and is available for hire online.

As a long-time fan, I was really disappointed to learn that in 2022, Guy apparently accepted lavish gifts instead of payment for some of his shows. We’re talking about things like a boat, plane tickets to fly all over the world, and even the use of two Toyota LandCruisers – basically, he took goods and services instead of cash. It just doesn’t sit right with me, knowing he was accepting these ‘contra deals’ instead of straightforward payment.

Popular Australian singers are still able to earn good money from individual performances, proving artists can maintain a comfortable income even with declining music sales.

Despite some recent dips in music chart performance, Guy has maintained a stable and comfortable lifestyle thanks to his long and successful career and various sources of income.

Although the specifics of Guy’s income aren’t public, he appears to earn money through a combination of touring, occasional performances, sponsorships, and various other business activities.
