Christina Applegate finally joined Instagram this week, sharing her first post after resisting for years.
Christina Applegate, the 53-year-old actress from Dead To Me, recently joined Instagram after being on Twitter (now X) since 2009. She shared a powerful black-and-white photo and a heartfelt message explaining her decision to make the switch.
Following a hospital stay earlier this year, Christina Applegate publicly addressed her ongoing struggle with multiple sclerosis, a condition she was diagnosed with in 2021.
In 2023, she shared that her autoimmune disease was causing severe physical symptoms, leading her to take a break from acting on camera. However, she intends to continue working as a voice actor.
I was so touched to see Christina Applegate’s first Instagram post! It was a really striking black-and-white photo of her, and she looked right at the camera with such a powerful gaze. It felt so personal and raw.
She was wearing a simple white V-neck t-shirt with dark jeans, only partially tucked in. She accessorized with several necklaces, one featuring a crescent moon, and a collection of bracelets.

Okay, let’s talk hair! I noticed the lovely Christina Applegate – yes, Kelly from *Married With Children* – was rocking this gorgeous, effortless look recently. She wore her blond hair in these really relaxed, loose waves that just flowed down her shoulders. It’s such a flattering and easy style to achieve – perfectly undone and chic!
Hey everyone, it’s Christina! A year ago, I never would have believed I’d be on Instagram – I probably would have told you to forget it! But here I am, and I’m going to do things my own way: authentically, honestly, and without filters.
She recently shared her favorite photo, saying it was taken by Sam Sarkar, a film producer who has been a friend of hers for a long time.
Applegate playfully apologized for her casually tucked-in shirt, explaining the photo was taken at home, surrounded by wind chimes that remind her of her mother and a necklace given to her by a close friend who practices witchcraft.
She announced her first Instagram post on X (formerly Twitter), saying she’ll be sharing updates about her book and personal life, and hopes people will follow her.
She also reminded her fans that her upcoming memoir is titled You With The Sad Eyes.
Oh my gosh, you guys, Applegate *said* she’s finally releasing her book! I was so thrilled when I heard! She explained that, after having to pull back from acting because of her MS, she suddenly had all this time, and decided to write it then. It’s just… amazing. I’ve been following her for years and this feels so personal, like a little piece of her journey. I can’t wait to read it!
‘My true colors will be out next March for all to see!’ she added.

In a follow-up tweet, she urged her fans to follow her, adding ‘It’s all new to me there.’
Applegate received many encouraging comments on her initial Instagram post, including one from Jamie Lynn Sigler, a star of *The Sopranos*, who also lives with multiple sclerosis. Sigler simply wrote, ‘Look at this!❤️’
Minka Kelly happily greeted someone, writing ‘Happy to see you here ❤️.’ Carmen Electra echoed the sentiment, excitedly writing ‘excited your here 😍😍’.
‘Hell yes,’ cheered Kaitlyn Bristowe.
Applegate then posted a new black-and-white video on her Instagram Stories, seemingly filmed while she was in bed.
She shared her excitement for her fans to finally read her memoir, promising it would be a completely honest look at her life – including all the highs and lows, and everything in between.
Applegate revealed in August 2021 that she had been diagnosed with MS earlier that year.

In individuals with autoimmune diseases, the protective coating around nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord is harmed.
When the protective coating around nerve fibers (myelin) is damaged, it disrupts the brain’s ability to send signals effectively. This can lead to symptoms like muscle weakness, difficulty with coordination, vision problems, and challenges with thinking or memory.
Applegate explained that her health problems quickly worsened, making it very challenging for her to finish filming the last season of the Netflix show, Dead To Me.
The show concluded with its last episodes in November 2022, after filming was adjusted to meet Apple’s requirements.
The following year, she stated she was stepping away from acting in movies and TV, but left the door open to voice acting, as it wouldn’t be as strenuous.
She’s currently working on bringing back her hit sitcom, Married With Children, as an animated series. The show originally ran on Fox from 1987 to 1997.
The show is coming back with the original stars: Ed O’Neill will reprise his role as Al Bundy, Katey Sagal as Peggy Bundy, and David Faustino as Bud Bundy.
