
Everyone knows sea otters love to play and need to eat a lot! To help care for these playful animals, the Monterey Bay Aquarium is asking for support from Taylor Swift’s fans.
The Central Coast Aquarium started a fundraiser on Thursday, bringing back an old T-shirt design to help its sea otter program and other ocean conservation work. They noticed a lot of $13 donations coming in, which they realized were from Taylor Swift fans.
Grammy-winning artist Taylor Swift wore a vintage 1993 t-shirt featuring sea otters from the Monterey Bay Aquarium at the release party for her new movie, “The Life of a Showgirl,” which celebrates her latest album. Her fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, is a big fan of sea otters, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium previously extended an invitation to the couple to visit.

The aquarium praised Taylor Swift fans, calling them people of action. To show their gratitude for the fans’ support, they’ve revived a popular design from the 1990s, and they’re doing it in an environmentally friendly way.
The aquarium announced Thursday that a special fundraiser – offering new, environmentally friendly versions of their popular shirt in both adult and children’s sizes to anyone donating $65.13 – reached its original goal in just seven hours. As of Friday, the fundraiser had raised almost $2.2 million, and the shirts were only available for pre-order.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium stated on its website that featuring their sea otter conservation efforts – whether planned or not – has generated increased support and attention for their ongoing ocean conservation work. The aquarium’s website also includes interesting facts connecting Taylor Swift with sea otters.
Taylor Swift’s “Release Party” movie, which premiered alongside the “The Fate of Ophelia” music video, featured behind-the-scenes looks and Swift’s own insights about her music. The 89-minute film earned $34 million in its opening weekend in theaters.
