As expected, a new movie has topped the charts: the romantic comedy-drama that concludes the *Culpables* trilogy. While it offers plenty of stylish hair, the film ultimately provides a lackluster ending to the series, appealing mostly to its dedicated fanbase.
If you’re unfamiliar with the series – based on Mercedes Ron’s popular WattPad novels – it tells the story of Noah and Nick, stepbrothers whose complicated and passionate relationship unfolds over three books. Expect all the typical drama: ups and downs, breakups, and makeups. Now, the final installment, *Culpa Nuestra*, wraps up their story, and here’s what it’s about:
Jenna and Lion’s wedding unexpectedly brings Noah and Nick face-to-face for the first time since their painful split. Despite lingering feelings, Nick struggles to forgive Noah. He’s taken over the family business, while Noah is just starting her career, and they both try to avoid rekindling a relationship that hasn’t quite died. But with fate bringing them back together, can love overcome their hurt feelings?
The first film in the series, *Culpa Mia (My Fault)*, came out in 2023 and received very poor reviews, scoring 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. *Culpa Tuya (Your Fault)*, released a year later, fared slightly better with an 18% rating. The third movie, *Culpa Nuestra (Our Fault)*, doesn’t have an official score yet, but reviews are mixed. It has received two mildly positive reviews – though they acknowledge the film is repetitive and relies too much on unlikely events – and three negative ones. Many viewers have found the film boring, with one review stating that even the intimate scenes are dull. Archi Sengupta of *LeisureByte.com* described the film as frustrating, saying it “makes you want to scream into a pillow over and over again.”
Most reviews of the movie have been negative, with some particularly harsh criticism – one reviewer even called it “absolute cinematic bullsh-t.” However, there’s at least one enthusiastic five-star review, with Jocelyn M praising it as a “wonderful ending” and an “amazing” conclusion to the trilogy. Even unpopular things have their fans, though.
‘Culpa Neustra’ Continues a Streaming Trend
Prime Video
Many viewers have noted that *Culpa Nuestra* is similar to previous films in the series, and it quickly became popular on Prime Video. However, some critics feel that beneath the attractive presentation, the movie lacks substance and will likely disappoint those who aren’t fans of stories originating from WattPad or adapted fan fiction.
Shows and movies based on stories from WattPad have often become popular on streaming services, though they haven’t usually received good reviews. Despite this, the trend of adapting online novels with massive existing fanbases – books shared and read millions of times – continues to grow. Streaming platforms are increasingly seeking out these stories, hoping to draw large audiences even if critics aren’t impressed.
Culpa Nuestra, and the previous movies in the trilogy, is streaming now on Prime Video.
