Although originally planned as a one-time series, there’s a possibility of a second season for the Netflix show starring Toni Collette. Alyvia Alyn Lind, one of the actors, recently discussed how the first season ended and what might happen next.
In a recent interview with The Direct, Lind expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the show *Wayward* if a second season is made. She noted there are many potential storylines for her character, Leila. *Wayward*, which premiered on Sept. 25, is set in a Vermont town and follows two teenagers and a police officer as they unravel the town’s hidden and disturbing truths, discovering that appearances can be deceiving.
Leila, played by Lind, is a teenager struggling with the recent loss of her sister. She ends up at Tall Pines Academy after breaking into the facility to save her best friend, Abbie (Sydney Topliffe). The series stars Mae Martin, who also created the show, alongside Sarah Gadon and John Daniel.
Lind acknowledged that the fate of a second season of *Wayward* rests with its creator, Mae. She expressed confidence in Mae’s ability to continue the story effectively, saying that if Mae chooses to write another season, she’s sure it would be fantastic, and she’d love the opportunity to reprise her role.
Lind said she hadn’t been contacted about another season of the show. “I honestly haven’t heard anything – they don’t keep me in the loop,” she explained. Despite this, she has many thoughts on potential storylines for her character, Leila.
Lind wondered what would happen to her after the jump, admitting she couldn’t picture the result. She speculated it could turn her into someone strange and unresponsive, almost in a coma, or it might be more like what happened with Laura – still feeling normal and pleasant, but with a strange, unsettling energy.
Wayward Star Discusses Potential Romance in New Netflix Miniseries
Many viewers of ‘Wayward’ have noticed a close connection between Lind’s character, Leila, and her best friend Abbie, leading to speculation about a possible romantic relationship. Lind addressed this, but doesn’t think it’s accurate. She explained that while the show is open to interpretation, she believes Leila and Abbie are simply close friends.
Lind shared that she and Sydney Topliffe, who plays Abbie, were good friends in real life, and that connection was visible on screen. She acknowledged that viewers might interpret a romantic connection between their characters, saying, ‘If people want to think that, that’s fine with me.’ However, Lind emphasized that she loved how their characters demonstrated a strong bond without needing a romantic relationship, finding it ‘really wonderful’ to portray that kind of connection.
Wayward is now streaming on Netflix.
