NCIS: Origin’s Secret Top Gun Connection Revealed With Tom Cruise Set Visit

I was so excited to hear that Tom Cruise dropped by the set of yesterday! Apparently, it was a huge morale boost for everyone working on the show. Even cooler, one of the show’s creators, David J. North, shared that there’s actually a hidden connection between the series and Cruise’s *Top Gun* movies – a fun little Easter egg for fans like me!

Earlier today, North shared photos on Instagram of Tom Cruise visiting the set of *Origins*. The post explained that Cruise had stopped by to show support for the show and the *NCIS* universe. North, who co-created *Origins*, also revealed a fun connection to *Top Gun*: the bar in *Origins*, called Daly’s, was inspired by the bar in *Top Gun*. He shared that Cruise gave them his approval, and they were grateful for his advice and support.

Tom Cruise visited the set of *NCIS: Origins* just after the show’s second season premiered on CBS. *Origins* is a prequel that explores the beginning of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ career as a new special agent. It’s set at the early days of the NIS Camp Pendleton office, where he joins a rough-and-tumble team led by the renowned Mike Franks. Austin Stowell plays the younger Gibbs, and Mark Harmon returns as the older Gibbs to provide narration.

NCIS: Origins Season 2 Resolves Shocking Season 1 Cliffhanger

The Season 2 premiere, titled “The Funky Bunch,” resolved a cliffhanger from the previous season. Fans were left wondering if Mariel Molino’s character, Cecilia “Lala” Dominguez, would return after a dangerous car crash. While North and Monreal initially kept her fate a secret, the premiere confirmed that Lala survived and had already returned to work.

As a big fan of the *NCIS* franchise, I’m really excited about what’s coming up on *NCIS: Origins*! Apparently, the fifth episode, titled “Buried Truth,” will feature a crossover of sorts with the original *NCIS*. It’s clever how they’re making it work, considering *Origins* is set 30 years in the past. The episode will focus on a cold case – the death of a naval officer back in the ’90s – and then *NCIS* will revisit it in the present day, essentially re-investigating the murder. It sounds like a really interesting way to connect the two shows!

Monreal shared that they’ve observed him questioning people in various settings, like outdoors and even in an elevator, but they haven’t yet seen him conduct a full, intense interrogation. He expressed anticipation to see how that first interrogation will play out.

The next episode of NCIS: Origins Season 2 airs on CBS on Oct. 21.
