Stranger Things Season 5 Features an Unexpected Character Return

A fan-favorite character from Stranger Things is coming back for Season 5, but their return could be under troubling circumstances.

As a huge fan, I was a little sad to hear that Season 5 of Stranger Things will be the last one. It’s amazing how much this show, created by the Duffer Brothers, has captivated us all. Seeing Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Hopper, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, and Finn Wolfhard as Mike has been incredible, and I’m definitely going to miss them all when it ends.

Who is returning in Stranger Things Season 5?

Okay, so I just read this in Time Magazine and I’m kind of blown away! Apparently, Barb is going to reappear in the final season of Stranger Things – well, her body will, anyway. It’s still a mystery *how*, but it sounds like we haven’t seen the last of her, which is wild considering everything that happened!

According to the article, while walking through a tunnel on the set in Atlanta, a crew member almost tripped over a body – the dummy used for the character Barb. It was covered in dark, vine-like decorations made from painted pool noodles, with purple lips and a large, bloody wound on its neck. The dummy was partially buried in the ground. Like Will Byers, Barb (played by Shannon Purser) was taken to the Upside Down in the first season, but unlike Will, she wasn’t rescued.

Although Barb doesn’t have a lot of screen time in the first season of Stranger Things, her unexpected death deeply affected fans, leading to the popular hashtags #JusticeForBarb and #ImWithBarb. The show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, were surprised by the strong reaction.

We kept hearing from viewers asking, ‘What happened to Barb?’ We realized it was a show focused on Will, but people were really invested in Barb’s story too,” explained Ross.

Matt added, “Netflix kept harassing us about it. And it turns out they were right.”

Ross explained that they hadn’t paid enough attention to her, and because of that, Hawkins also overlooked her, which ultimately made her even more well-known.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be released in three volumes. The first part will be available on November 26, 2025, followed by the second on December 25, and the third on December 31.
