As the fifth season of the show wraps up, it appears one potential spinoff has been cancelled, according to the show’s creator. The series has already led to three spinoffs: the upcoming prequel *Vought Rising*, *Gen V*, and an animated series. While *Vought Rising* and *Gen V* are moving forward, it seems the animated series may have only had one season.
The animated series *Diabolical*, a spin-off of the Prime Video hit *The Boys*, featured standalone stories, some of which connected to the main storyline. Despite receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews – a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes – it doesn’t appear to be continuing after *The Boys* ends. Showrunner Eric Kripe recently told *The Wrap* about the show’s future:
It doesn’t look like “Diabolical” will be renewed for a second season. We definitely tried to make it happen, but unfortunately, the show didn’t attract enough viewers to justify another season. Everyone involved, including the showrunner Simon Racioppa, would love to continue, but we haven’t received the green light yet.
Spin-off animated series, even those connected to well-loved franchises, often struggle to achieve the same success or ratings as the original shows or movies. We’ve seen this with Marvel’s *What If…?* and *Marvel Zombies*, as well as Netflix’s *The Witcher*. Even the visually impressive *Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim* didn’t perform well in theaters, despite positive reviews. Considering this pattern, it’s perhaps unsurprising that *The Boys Presents: Diabolical* quietly ended without much fanfare, especially with so many other *The Boys* projects in development.
‘The Boys’ Will Continue in Several Live-Action Spinoffs

Prime Video
As viewers prepare to finish the story of Homelander, Starlight, Billy Butcher, and all the complex characters from this unique superhero series, the creators, led by Kripke, are already developing new projects to expand the world beyond the show.
Season two of *Gen V* is currently airing and has been very popular on Prime Video. While there’s no official announcement yet about a third season, things are looking positive for the characters at Godolkin University.
I’m so excited to hear Jensen Ackles is continuing as Soldier Boy! Not only will he be back for Season 5 of *The Boys*, but he’s also going to be starring in a new prequel series called *Vought Rising*. It sounds amazing – a dark and twisted murder mystery set in the 1950s, showing how Vought International first started, and how Soldier Boy was back then. Apparently, we’ll also see the early days of Stormfront, and I’m thrilled Aya Cash is returning to play her again! It’s going to be a deep dive into the origins of everything, and I can’t wait!
Besides the previously mentioned project, a Mexican version of *The Boys* is also still in the works and has been in development for a while. This new series is expected to star Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, known from *Werewolf by Night*. While it’s not expected to arrive soon, it looks like this could be the next *Boys* spinoff to actually get made.
