Wayne and Coleen Rooney look happier than ever as they get their glad rags on for a date night after the footballer revealed his long-suffering wife saved him from alcoholism

Wayne and Coleen Rooney seemed very happy together on a recent date night. This outing came after Wayne shared that Coleen had been instrumental in helping him overcome his struggles with alcohol.

Coleen, age 39, posted a heartwarming photo with her husband, a former football manager also age 39, on Instagram Thursday.

The wife and girlfriend of a footballer showed off her toned stomach in a tight-fitting maroon lace outfit, consisting of a cropped, long-sleeved top and a long skirt.

She added height with a pair of black heels and finished the look with bold gold earrings.

Wayne, celebrating his 40th birthday next week, looked proud standing with his wife of 17 years. He was dressed in a sharp outfit: a white shirt and a grey blazer.

Coleen shared that her skin is glowing thanks to her regular monthly treatments at @careoftheskin, emphasizing that consistency is important.

Coleen’s recent social media post follows Wayne’s statement that his wife ‘saved’ him from alcoholism and that he wouldn’t be alive today without her.

The retired soccer player discussed the depth of his difficulties in an interview on the podcast hosted by his former Manchester United teammate, Rio Ferdinand.

When he was younger, Wayne said he just wanted to have fun and spend time with his friends. But he admits he eventually went overboard, and it caused him a lot of difficulties.

He explained that he felt unable to reach out for help, not wanting to trouble anyone with his problems.

Wayne remembered a time he drank alcohol continuously for two days before going to football practice.

Wayne tried to hide his two-day drinking spree from his colleagues and boss by using eye drops, chewing gum, and aftershave to cover up the signs.

He explained that during the week, he’d perform well in training and even score goals on weekends, but then he’d immediately fall back into a pattern of drinking heavily for two days.

Wayne made a heartfelt statement, publicly thanking his wife and mother of his four children, Coleen. He shared that he truly believes she saved his life, saying, ‘I honestly believe if she weren’t there I’d be dead.’

He excitedly explained that Coleen is a huge part of his life. He added that growing up together as two kids from Croxteth, dating, getting married, and having children made their situation particularly impactful.

When I was seventeen, my mom really understood me. She recognized I was a bit different – I was passionate about football, almost obsessed with it, but I also enjoyed going out and having fun with friends.

She recognized the issue right away and has been a huge help in managing it. She didn’t control it for me, but she gave me the support I needed to get it under control.

Sometimes it feels frustrating, and you wonder why someone keeps telling you what not to do.

‘How she’s managed me because I needed managing.’

He went on to speak highly of his wife, explaining that despite his past errors – which are well known – she consistently guides him to be a better person, something she’s been doing for over twenty years.

Coleen and Wayne first met as children – they were both 12 years old and living in Liverpool. They began dating four years later, when they were 16.

Oh my gosh, they got married in Italy way back in 2008! And can you believe they have *four* kids?! Kai is the oldest, he’s fifteen now, then there’s Klay, who’s eleven. Little Kit is eight, and the baby, Cass, is only six! I’ve been following them forever, and it’s just amazing to see their family grow.
