The cinema is packed with new releases this weekend, including the thrillers *After the Hunt*, the horror sequel *Black Phone 2*, and the comedy *Good Fortune*. However, we want to remind you about a film already playing that you shouldn’t miss.
“I Swear” is a heartwarming and humorous film that tells the life story of John Davidson. It follows his experiences growing up in 1980s Britain, where he struggled with Tourette’s Syndrome, and his eventual work as a passionate advocate for the condition. In 2019, he received an MBE for his dedication to raising awareness and supporting families affected by Tourette’s.
It’s understandable if you’re not familiar with John Davidson, so you might have missed his film, *I Swear*, even though it’s highly rated. For a long time, it had a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it still maintains an excellent 96%. To help you decide if you should watch it, we’ve included an exclusive clip from *I Swear* above.

In a scene from the show, John (played by Robert Aramayo in a breakout performance) starts a game of Blackjack with his friend Murray’s family. However, due to his Tourette’s syndrome, he blurts out that he has two aces. Luckily, Murray’s mother, Dottie (played by Maxine Peake), convinces everyone to pretend they didn’t hear it.
This film perfectly captures the nuanced reality of living with Tourette’s Syndrome, skillfully blending its often unintentional humor with the genuine emotional struggles it presents. It’s both enlightening and entertaining, offering viewers a deeper understanding of the condition while also completely charming them.

Kirk Jones wrote and directed the film. The cast includes Peter Mullan as Tommy Trotter, who runs the community center, Shirley Henderson as John’s mother, Heather, and Scott Ellis Watson as young John. Francesco Piacentini-Smith also stars as Murray.
The new film *I Swear* had a strong opening weekend in the UK, earning £1.19 million and landing in third place at the box office. It also received an impressive score of 87% ‘Excellent’ on audience surveys, which is the highest ever recorded for a film in the UK using the PostTrak system.
The film received the highest audience score ever recorded, surpassing popular hits like *Top Gun: Maverick*, the Academy Award-winning *Parasite*, and *Bohemian Rhapsody*. An impressive 99% of viewers rated it either ‘Excellent’ or ‘Very Good’. These ratings are based on feedback collected from moviegoers leaving select cinemas across the UK.

StudioCanal UK CEO Katheryn Needham expressed her excitement about the strong reception to *I Swear*. Both critics and audiences, as shown by record-breaking exit polls, are connecting with John Davidson’s story.
