Darius McCrary, known for his role on ‘Family Matters,’ was denied bail after appearing in court in Southern California on Wednesday.
Reginald VelJohnson, best known for playing Officer Eddie Winslow on the TV show ‘Family Matters’ from 1989 to 1998, has been in jail near San Diego for the past 10 days. He was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents on October 5th.
The judge decided the actor, originally from Walnut, California, still posed a risk of fleeing, as he was arrested regarding a serious warrant issued in Michigan.
At the time McCrary was arrested, he was trying to get into Mexico from the U.S., authorities said.
The actor, known for his role in ‘Monogamy,’ initially stated he would represent himself in court and didn’t want a lawyer. However, the judge assigned a public defender to assist him.
Daily Mail has reached out to reps for McCrary for further comment on the story.

Officials intend to bring McCrary back to Michigan within the next month. He originally missed a court hearing related to unpaid child support, which led to the arrest warrant being issued.
Initially, reports differed about the reason the former Young and the Restless actor was even in that location.
According to ABC 10 News, prosecutors stated that McCrary’s agent said he was in Tijuana looking at properties to potentially buy.
According to his lawyer, McCrary was in the neighborhood working on a charity project, helping to build homes.
According to the actor’s representative, McCrary isn’t likely to flee because he has no ties to the Tijuana region, according to People magazine.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! Apparently, poor Mr. McCrary ended up in the *wrong country*! It was just a simple mistake – a mix-up about where he was supposed to meet his colleague for the Esperanza project, you know, the amazing charity that builds houses for people. Can you imagine the chaos? I’m so worried about him, but honestly, even this mishap makes me admire him more!
According to his representative, McCrary plans to fight the charges in Michigan court, with a hearing scheduled for November 14th.
McCrary has faced legal problems before, stemming from a difficult divorce from his former wife, Tammy Brawner.

According to court documents obtained by People magazine, the couple divorced in 2019 after filing in 2017. As part of the divorce settlement, McCrary was ordered to pay $1,366 each month for child support.
According to reports, the court granted actress and producer Brawner complete legal and physical custody of her three-year-old daughter, Zoe. Brawner previously played with the Harlem Globetrotters.
After reviewing court documents, People magazine reported that McCrary was ordered to attend year-long programs for substance abuse and domestic violence intervention.
According to court documents, McCrary was initially allowed to visit his daughter for six hours every Sunday, with the first ten visits being supervised. After those visits, the court planned to review the situation and decide if the conditions needed to be changed.
