A Jedi character previously featured in the older ‘Legends’ stories from Star Wars has appeared in the new Disney+ series, *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past*. This fun miniseries brings together many famous Star Wars characters as LEGO figures. Because the show uses the LEGO format, it allows characters from different eras and storylines to meet and interact in one adventure.
The Disney+ series *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past* has already introduced characters like Cal Kestis, and it’s continuing to expand the Star Wars universe with new faces. In the third episode, Queen Amidala’s fleet appears, but with a twist – they’ve been reimagined as a band of pirates. Among these pirates are some familiar characters, including Kyle Katarn.

Kyle Katarn is a well-known character from the older Expanded Universe of Star Wars, now called Legends (stories published before 2014 that aren’t part of the main movies). He starred in the Star Wars: Jedi Knight video game series. Katarn started as an Imperial officer, then became a mercenary working with the Rebel Alliance, and eventually trained at Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy to become a Jedi Master. He’s also appeared in various other Star Wars books and comics.
Although Kyle Katarn is well-known in the older Star Wars stories (Legends), he hadn’t appeared in the official Star Wars timeline until now. His inclusion in *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past* marks a significant moment, as it’s his first appearance on Disney+.

Fans spotted a familiar face – Kyle Katarn – briefly appearing as a member of the Pirate Queen Amidala’s crew. StarWars.com has since confirmed the character’s identity. In this alternate story, Katarn has become a pirate and works with Queen Amidala, alongside other pirate-themed versions of Star Wars favorites like Cassian Andor, R2-D2, and C-3PO.

The Disney+ series, *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past*, premiered on September 19, 2025. It continues the story from the 2024 series *LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy* and features returning cast members like Gaten Matarazzo, Tony Revolori, Ahmed Best, Mark Hamill, and Ashley Eckstein.
Does Kyle Katarn Have a Future in Star Wars Canon?

Because Kyle Katarn is part of the older ‘Legends’ storyline, he hasn’t been able to appear in the current, main Star Wars story. But his detailed backstory could potentially be used in future Star Wars content.
A key part of Kyle Katarn’s story is his friendship with Luke Skywalker. It started when Katarn became Luke’s student at the Jedi training academy on Yavin 4. He eventually reached the rank of Master, working alongside Luke to train a new group of Jedi. While this didn’t happen in the main Skywalker Saga films, it’s been established that Luke did try to rebuild the Jedi Order, taking on students like his nephew, Ben Solo, and Grogu.
Much of the story of the Skywalker family between the end of *Return of the Jedi* and the beginning of *The Force Awakens* is still untold. This creates a perfect opportunity to introduce Kyle Katarn, a character with strong ties to the Skywalker family in the older “Legends” stories. With new *Star Wars* shows like *The Mandalorian* and *Ahsoka* already exploring this era, there’s a good chance Katarn could be officially added to the main *Star Wars* storyline.
There’s been talk among Star Wars fans that Mara Jade, a popular character from the old ‘Legends’ stories and connected to the hero Katarn, might be coming into the official Star Wars timeline. If that happens, it could pave the way for Katarn to appear as well. Even if Katarn doesn’t become part of the main Star Wars story, he could still show up in things like the LEGO Star Wars series or other Star Wars games that aren’t considered official canon.
