Gwyneth Paltrow continues to stand by her use of the term ‘conscious uncoupling‘ to describe her split from Chris Martin, despite the criticism it received at the time.
The 53-year-old actress ended her 10-year marriage with the Coldplay singer in 2014. However, the way she described the separation, using a term other than ‘divorce,’ led to a lot of public criticism.
In an interview with British Vogue, Gwyneth Paltrow reflected on her divorce from Chris Martin, suggesting she may have unintentionally set a pattern for how couples separate. She also acknowledged that despite their efforts, they still made many mistakes throughout the process.
I’ve always admired how Gwyneth and Chris handled their split. They finalized their divorce back in 2016, but they’ve truly made co-parenting work for their kids, Apple and Moses, who are all grown up now – Apple’s 21 and Moses is 19! It was so lovely to see Chris even at Gwyneth’s wedding to Brad Falchuk in 2018. They really prioritize their family, even after everything, and I think that’s wonderful.
Divorce is a really painful experience, and it’s understandably a sensitive topic. People reacted strongly because it felt like the discussion implied they or their parents had failed at marriage, and I can see why that would be upsetting.
We’d seen divorce cause a lot of pain for our friends, so we were determined to handle things differently in our own relationship.

Gwyneth also shared how proud she remains of what they accomplished and how they continue to live by it. She often has people approach her to express their gratitude for her contribution and for helping to establish that model.
It feels like our experiences deserve to be written down. We learned through a lot of mistakes – we failed repeatedly, but eventually figured things out.
The actress, who has an Academy Award, first introduced the term ‘conscious uncoupling’ when she announced her separation from Chris on her website, Goop.
We’ve made the difficult decision to separate, and we’re deeply saddened by it. Despite this, we remain a family and, in many ways, our connection is stronger than ever before.
We are, first and foremost, parents to two beautiful children. We kindly ask for privacy and space for our family as we navigate this challenging time.
We’ve always kept our relationship private, and we hope to continue doing so as we separate and raise our children together.
I’ve been following the idea of ‘conscious uncoupling’ for a while now, and it’s fascinating to learn its history! Everyone thinks Gwyneth Paltrow made it popular, and she definitely brought it into the spotlight, but the concept actually goes way back. It was first discussed by a sociologist named Diane Vaughan in 1976, and then really shaped into what we know today by Katherine Woodward Thomas in 2009. It’s cool to see how it’s evolved!
The announcement also led to strong criticism online, with many people arguing it was simply a way for wealthy couples to avoid a traditional divorce.

In a recent interview with British Vogue, Gwyneth Paltrow discussed her upcoming movie, *Marty Supreme*, and working with Timothée Chalamet. She confessed she wasn’t familiar with him before they started filming.
She explained that people often tease her for being clueless. She tried to change the subject by asking him if he had a girlfriend, and he confirmed that he did.
He told me she had children, and I responded, “That’s wonderful! It’s great to hear that from someone your age.”
I get why a 45-year-old dad would date someone with kids, and honestly, I think it’s pretty cool he’s dating a younger woman who also has children. It’s a bit unexpected and I admire that. I just didn’t realize it was Kylie Jenner!
The actress confessed that even with her strict diet and exercise routine, she still indulges in treats sometimes, revealing this when asked about the last time she ate junk food.
She mentioned that last night, a friend visited and she had a chocolate-covered Oreo. She added that it was probably very high in trans fats.
It’s mostly made with seed oils, but sometimes it’s really important to give in to what you’re craving. I absolutely love it!
The actress, known for her role in Shakespeare In Love, revealed she quit smoking eight years ago while getting ready for her wedding to Brad Falchuk.
She said: ‘Oh, sadly I remember it well. It was the night we got married seven years ago.

While updating some documents, I got life insurance, but the policy stated that if I had ever smoked, even just one cigarette, the entire policy would be invalid.
As a classic Enneagram Type 1 – someone who really values honesty and doing the right thing – I quit smoking and never went back.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter, Apple Martin, is also pursuing a similar path, recently appearing with her mother in a photoshoot for GapStudio.
While attending Vanderbilt University, Apple has also been pursuing a career in fashion, but some people believe she’s only getting opportunities because of her well-known family.
In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the model responded to accusations that she benefited from nepotism, acknowledging that her upbringing was far from typical.
My parents taught me the importance of hard work and made sure I understood that nothing in life is guaranteed. They raised me to believe I needed to earn what I get.
