Laurence Fishburne has expressed an interest in stepping into one of Marvel’s most iconic roles.

At a recent Matrix reunion panel during New York Comic Con, Laurence Fishburne expressed interest in playing Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X) in Marvel Studios’ upcoming reboot of the X-Men. He jokingly suggested himself for the role, asking, “What do you think about Laurence Fishburne as Professor X?” (according to Entertainment Weekly).

The audience erupted in applause and cheers after his question, and the moderator, Josh Horowitz, enthusiastically gave his approval. Before this, both Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy had played Professor X in movies made by 20th Century Fox.

When asked about taking on new acting roles, Laurence Fishburne said he’s keeping an open mind and is happy to let fans suggest possibilities, admitting he’s not sure what he’d do next. However, he made it clear he won’t be joining the Star Wars franchise. He enjoys watching the series from the comfort of his couch and doesn’t feel the need to be *in* the Star Wars universe, playfully stating he doesn’t need a lightsaber.

Laurence Fishburne says he doesn’t really have a ‘dream role’ – he’s excited about whatever comes next. He often tells people that his favorite project is always the one he’s currently working on. Considering his long career, which includes the iconic film *The Matrix* over twenty years ago, he’s still eager to take on interesting and unique roles.
