Sia’s estranged husband is seeking over $250,000 per month in spousal support

I’m absolutely floored to hear that Sia’s ex, Dan Bernard, is asking for over $250,000 *every month* in support. It’s hard to believe, honestly, but reports say he’s requesting that amount from her. It’s a really tough situation, and I’m following it closely as a long-time fan.

The singer and her husband, Bernard, separated in March after being married for three years. Now, Bernard is asking for a large amount of money in the divorce, along with $300,000 to cover his legal costs and an additional $200,000 for the expense of investigating their finances.

Court records filed in Los Angeles on October 9th and reviewed by PEOPLE show that Bernard states he lost his income after leaving his job in 2021 to start a ketamine treatment clinic with Sia. He claims the 49-year-old singer knew this decision would cause his medical license to lapse.

Sia and her ex-partner created a company called Modern Medicine in 2022, after having a son together, Somersault, who is now 18 months old. However, legal documents claim Sia stopped providing financial support for the business in March.

Okay, so here’s the deal: my client’s husband hasn’t been paid since their separation, which is really tough. They had supposedly come to an understanding that he’d keep working at the company until July, but that hasn’t translated into actual paychecks. It’s a stressful situation, and we’re working to resolve it, of course, but it highlights how important clear, *written* agreements are when navigating these changes.

The former medic asked for a large amount of spousal support to continue the lavish lifestyle he and Sia shared, which cost over $400,000 each month. This included expenses like private jets, vacations, expensive restaurants, and a full staff.

He stated they never tracked their household spending. He is asking the court to require Sia to provide him with $250,856 each month in temporary financial support as part of their divorce.

I need court orders right now because I rely entirely on my wife, Sia, for financial support. I currently have no income of my own, and she has stopped providing money for my medical expenses.

‘Sia has the ability to pay me spousal support to maintain our financial status quo.’

Daniel explained that he needs to finish several years of training and pass tough exams before he can get his radiation oncology certification renewed and start practicing again.

He said asking for financial support for his legal and accounting costs would create a fairer situation between him and his soon-to-be ex-wife.

Shortly after the singer of “Cheap Thrills” started divorce proceedings, Daniel stated she covered his hotel expenses until the end of July, after which he moved into his present residence.

He spent over $100,000 to rent the property for a year, but claims in legal filings that Sia – who also has two adopted teenage sons – wouldn’t agree to pay him back.

Sia filed for divorce from her second husband in March after two years of marriage.

Sia, the Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter from Australia (whose full name is Sia Furler), submitted a legal request to the Los Angeles court.

They officially separated on Tuesday. Like most divorces in California, she stated they had irreconcilable differences. She also requested that the court not require Bernard to pay her any alimony.

She is also asking the court for both legal and physical custody of her 11-month-old daughter, Somersault Wonder Bernard.

The singer has always kept their personal life private, so it’s unknown when they started seeing Bernard or how they first connected. They officially became husband and wife in December 2022, and celebrated with a small wedding ceremony in Portofino, Italy, the following May.

From 2014 to 2017, Sia was married to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang.

In 2019, she adopted two teenage boys who were both 18 years old and nearing the end of their time in foster care.

After her divorce from Lang, she told GQ in 2020 that she planned to remain single indefinitely.

The singer has been nominated for nine Grammys. Five of them were for her 2014 hit Chandelier.
