General Hospital star Kirsten Storms to undergo brain surgery ‘in the next two weeks’

General Hospital actress Kirsten Storms has announced she will be having a procedure to treat a brain aneurysm within the next couple of weeks.

I’ve been following her story closely, and I just learned more about her treatment! Apparently, the incredible surgeon treating her is going to use a really clever technique. They’ll insert a thin tube, and guide a flexible wire through it to reach the aneurysm in her brain. This will then help to block it off from the artery, essentially sealing it off and preventing any further problems. The Mayo Clinic explained it all, and honestly, it’s amazing how advanced this procedure is!

Kirsten’s health journey began in 2021 with surgery to remove a brain cyst. Unfortunately, a follow-up scan in January revealed another cyst had developed near her brain stem, which understandably upset her.

Storms shared on Monday that despite feeling mentally resistant and struggling, she recognizes everyone goes through difficult periods.

‘If we can, we will do our best to do what is best for ourselves and loved ones.’

In July, the Florida native relocated from Los Angeles to St. Louis, Missouri, the city where her ex-husband, Brandon Barash, and their 11-year-old daughter, Harper Rose, live.

Kirsten, a social media personality with nearly 780,000 followers, realized she needed to make some quick changes in her life.

Leaving Los Angeles was a priority for me, mainly because of Harper, but also to improve my well-being and overall happiness. It was something I needed for my health, both physically and mentally.

In 2016, Storms divorced her husband, whom she’d married two years prior and who was also a co-star. He later married their daughter’s teacher, Isabella Devoto, in 2022.

The 5’3″ actress publicly thanked her close friend and co-star, Emme Rylan. Together, they own a business called Kirsten and Emme, which sells handmade crochet sweaters.

Kirsten shared that her daughter, Emme, was with her throughout her brain surgery in 2021 and her recovery in the hospital.

I woke up in the ICU after my surgery, and the very first thing my doctor said was, “How are you feeling? Do you still enjoy knitting?” Even my neurosurgeon laughed at the funny question.

Kirsten Storms has played the character Mariah ‘Maxie’ Jones on the soap opera *General Hospital* since 2005, with a brief break, and has been in the role through 2025. She is the ninth actress to take on this part, which was first introduced in 1990.

The actor, known for his role on the long-running ABC soap opera, last appeared in August when his character fell into a coma after being poisoned by Jenz Sidwell (played by Carlo Rota).

In 2015, Harper started her acting career with a guest role on the TV show *General Hospital*. She played Georgie Spinelli, the daughter of the character Maxie, appearing in eight episodes.
