Because her parents are famous – one a well-known actress and the other the lead singer of Coldplay – Apple Martin is often accused of achieving success simply due to her family connections.
The celebrity child, often referred to as a ‘nepo baby,’ has secured another prominent fashion job, this time appearing in her first campaign for the London brand Self-Portrait.
Despite past criticism for benefiting from her family’s wealth and connections, the 21-year-old model recently posed for photos with renowned photographer Ryan McGinley on a farm in upstate New York.
Mel Ottenberg styled Apple’s outfits, choosing pieces from the brand’s new collection. These included a long white lace and satin dress, a playful off-the-shoulder polka dot mini dress, and a shimmering silver sequinned dress.
The model, a student at Vanderbilt University, recently shot her first campaign after becoming the brand’s new ambassador.
It was natural for them to launch with a self-portrait because their style embodies a distinctly British feel, which immediately resonated with me and made me feel at home, having grown up in London.

I also love how beautiful and easy to understand the collections are! Han and the team made me feel included in the creative process, and I’m really enjoying learning as I go.
I can’t wait for everyone to see this new project and I’m thrilled we’re continuing to create together!
Han Chong, the founder and creative director of self-portrait, explained that their newest collection, part of the ‘Portraits’ series, aims to showcase easy and natural self-expression – a key element of the brand’s identity.
‘Apple captures the spirit of a generation of women stepping into the world independently.
It’s been truly inspiring to work with her. She embodies a fresh, confident, and open-minded generation. She’s easy to talk to, understands herself well, is very professional, and has a great sense of humor. We’re thrilled to have her join our team.
Chong explained that it was crucial to collaborate with someone who could authentically portray young people – capturing their honesty, vulnerability, and freedom.
Ryan McGinley’s distinctive perspective makes this campaign feel both intimate and impactful.
News of Apple’s partnership with the celebrity surfaced last month, and many people immediately criticized the decision, suggesting she got the opportunity because of who she knows.

‘THIS is nepotism gone bad,’ one wrote.
One commenter sarcastically expressed relief that another celebrity child had secured a privileged position despite lacking demonstrable skills, implying that this was the most important thing.
Someone commented, expressing surprise and criticism about a person being a public figure, suggesting they only achieved success because of their family connections and lack of skill.
Many people expressed their enthusiasm for the collaboration online, with comments like ‘This is excellent,’ ‘She is so pretty,’ and ‘She’s perfect!’
Someone else suggested the student was only receiving attention due to her famous mother, stating that she wouldn’t be noticed without the connection to Gwyneth Paltrow.
‘I’m shocked. A celebrity’s child who wants to be a model,’ one commented.
Founded in 2013 by Han Chong, Self-Portrait is known for creating clothes that make women feel confident and capable, both during the day and at night. The brand aims to inspire women around the world with its easygoing and stylish designs.
Apple is the latest celebrity to share a self-portrait, joining a group that includes Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi Hadid, Naomi Campbell, Irina Shayk, Bella Hadid, Kate Moss, Jisoo, and Phoebe Dynevor.

Beyoncé, Olivia Rodrigo, Michelle Obama, BlackPink, Paris Hilton, Selena Gomez, Cynthia Erivo, and Gigi Hadid are just a few of the many famous faces who have worn the brand.
Apple is a junior at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and was recently seen around town last month.
According to a friend, Apple is thriving in college, finding it a good academic and social fit.
She’s quickly adjusted to life in Nashville and has become close with many new people, which means a lot to her. She’s truly flourishing there.
In a recent interview with Interview magazine, Apple shared that while they’re studying law, history, and society, they’re considering taking a theater class before graduating.
She explained it’s a hectic time because right after spring break, she has tech week for the show, and she’s responsible for getting all the costumes prepared.
She’s really been enjoying the atmosphere at college. “The vibes are just great, honestly,” she said. “It makes it so much easier to go to class when the weather is nice.”
Apple is taking after her mom, Gwyneth Paltrow, by working on a show while she’s in college.
She excitedly shared that she’s performing with the Vanderbilt Original Cast, a well-respected cabaret group. Their current show is a hilarious musical parody of the reality TV show *Love Island*, called *Love on an Island*, and she’s having a blast. She especially loves the songs, calling them fantastic.
Vanderbilt University is a private research university located in Nashville, Tennessee. It was established in 1873 and named after Cornelius Vanderbilt, a prominent figure in shipping and railroads.
Apple turned twenty-one in May and celebrated with a glamorous coming-of-age ball in December.
The glamorous event took place in Paris at the luxurious Hotel Shangri-La, where Apple was accompanied by her charming partner, Count Leo Henckel von Donnersmarck, a member of Austro-Hungarian nobility.
Apple’s proud parents were also in attendance, as was her brother Moses, who is now 19.
