Diane Keaton’s last major public outing was at birthday gathering for fellow Hollywood icon Jack Nicholson

During the final months of her life, Diane Keaton spent time with her longtime Hollywood friends.

Ed Begley Jr. shared with People magazine that he last saw the actress, who passed away Saturday at 79, at a birthday party for Jack Nicholson in April.

Begley, 76, recently saw Keaton at Jack Nicholson’s birthday party and was happy to see her. Keaton and Nicholson, 88, starred together in the 2003 film, ‘Something’s Gotta Give’.

He spoke fondly of Diane Keaton, describing her as both a talented actress and a lovely person. He shared that they had worked together previously, playing siblings in an HBO movie called ‘Running Mates’ alongside Ed Harris, and he was happy to have known her for so long.

Begley said he figured that Nicholson was probably floored by news of Keaton’s death, as he was.

Begley shared that they both admired Jack Nicholson, and Nicholson felt the same way about her. He explained he wasn’t speaking for Nicholson, but believed Nicholson was just as heartbroken by her passing as he was.

Oh my gosh, Diane Keaton was *so* deserving of that Best Actress nomination at the 2004 Oscars! She was absolutely incredible as Erica Barry in *Something’s Gotta Give*. And Jack Nicholson was perfect opposite her as Harry Sanborn – their chemistry was just amazing! I still think about that movie all the time, and her performance was just… flawless.

The movie, written and directed by Nancy Myers, a close friend of Keaton’s, had a large cast and was released in theaters in December 2003.

The cast featured Keanu Reeves, Amanda Peet, Frances McDormand, Jon Favreau, Paul Michael Glaser, and Rachel Ticotin.

Meyers explained how Keaton influenced the veteran Hollywood star Nicholson while they were filming the movie.

In an April 2018 interview with Vulture, Meyers described rehearsing a scene where a character runs after another. After just one run-through, the director called him over, clearly upset.

The filmmaker continued: ‘I said, “What’s up?” And he goes, “Diane just told me she loves me.”

I wasn’t sure how he was reacting – he looked either shocked or excited. I told him, “Yes, I’m aware, I actually wrote that line. It’s part of the script, Jack.” He seemed relieved to hear that. He’d thought the character was genuinely feeling that way, and it was pretty amusing. That’s just how she plays the part.

This story about Jack Nicholson surfaced alongside news that Al Pacino reportedly regrets not marrying his former costar from The Godfather, a famous actress with whom he was in a relationship for over 16 years, from 1971 to 1987.

According to a close friend, 85-year-old actor Al Pacino always considered Diane the love of his life, describing her as “an amazing woman.” The friend believes Al will always regret not pursuing a relationship with her when he had the opportunity.

For a long time after his divorce from Diane, Al would often say that it was never too late for a second chance if it was truly meant to be. Unfortunately, that time has now passed.

Diane Keaton, known for her roles in films like Annie Hall, Father of the Bride, and The First Wives Club, passed away while surrounded by family, according to a family member who spoke with the Associated Press. The family has asked for privacy and has not shared any additional information at this time.

Over the past year, Diane Keaton had become quite withdrawn. Carole Bayer Sager, a close friend and songwriter, noted to People magazine how noticeably frail Keaton appeared shortly before her passing.

Oh my gosh, I met her just a few weeks ago, and it just broke my heart. She looked so… fragile. She’d lost a lot of weight, and honestly, it was really worrying. I couldn’t stop thinking about it after, I was so concerned.

Sager shared that Keaton had to evacuate to Palm Springs after the January wildfires in Los Angeles damaged the interior of her home, requiring extensive cleanup.

The award-winning songwriter said she noticed a significant amount of weight loss in the other woman after she returned from being away for some time, and it really surprised him.

Sager remembered her friend as someone who brought joy to everyone around her, saying she had a radiant energy and was a truly special person. Sager simply stated, ‘I loved her.’

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following the news about Keaton, and it’s truly heartbreaking. A close friend recently shared with People magazine that her health has declined significantly in recent months, and it’s been incredibly difficult for all of us who care about her.

According to a source close to the situation, her health deteriorated very quickly and unexpectedly. This was particularly shocking given how strong and vibrant she usually was.

During her last few months, she was cared for privately by her immediate family. Even people who had known her for years didn’t completely understand the extent of her illness.

Following Keaton’s passing, many prominent figures in Hollywood, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Bette Midler, and Francis Ford Coppola, shared heartfelt tributes.

DiCaprio described the Oscar-winning actress as ‘brilliant, funny, and truly herself,’ and shared that she would be greatly missed.

Middler described Keaton as genuinely funny, uniquely herself, and refreshingly honest. She wasn’t at all competitive, which was surprising for someone so famous. What you saw on screen was simply the real her – a truly authentic person!

Francis Ford Coppola, director of The Godfather, recently shared on Instagram how impressed he is with Diane Keaton, saying he’s lost for words to describe her talent and skill.

The Academy Award-winning director described Diane as incredibly talented and beautiful, saying she embodied creativity in every way.

The actress is remembered for her incredible career in Hollywood, and many consider her performances from the 1970s to be among the finest of that era.

She starred in the lead role of Annie Hall, the famous 1977 comedy written and directed by Woody Allen. They worked together on several other well-known films.

In 1978, Diane Keaton won the Best Actress award for her performance in *Annie Hall*. This was the first of four times she would be nominated for the award throughout her career.

I’ve always admired her incredible range, and it’s no surprise she earned recognition for films like ‘Reds’ from 1981, ‘Marvin’s Room’ in ’96, and ‘Something’s Gotta Give’ a few years later in 2003. Each performance was just captivating!

Throughout her long and successful career, Diane Keaton also starred in popular films like Baby Boom (1987), The First Wives Club (1996), and the Father of the Bride movies from 1991 and 1995.
