Simon Stone, who directed the new Netflix thriller with Keira Knightley and Guy Pearce, has discussed the limitations they faced while filming on the actual superyacht, Savannah.
The new movie is based on Ruth Ware’s 2016 novel and stars Keira Knightley as Laura ‘Lo’ Blacklock, a journalist who gets the chance to cover a story aboard a billionaire’s lavish yacht.
Lo gets a bad feeling that something isn’t right, and she believes she sees someone fall into the water. However, the ship’s crew insist everyone is safe and present.

The new movie, which premiered on Netflix this Friday, October 10th, features a talented cast including Hannah Waddingham, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Morrissey, and Kaya Scodelario.
In an interview with *Town & Country*, Stone shared her experience filming the movie, which was primarily shot in Dorset on a luxurious 274-foot boat called the Savannah. The boat features six suites, a gym, a salon, and a spa.

Regarding the filming on the Savannah, Stone explained that it wasn’t as glamorous as many people anticipated.
The director said filming was surprisingly complicated because the boat was so fancy and came with a lot of restrictions.
Filming on the boat came with a lot of rules, which made things surprisingly uncomfortable for the crew. We weren’t allowed to eat, drink, or even hold coffee cups while working – it was the opposite of the luxurious experience you might expect.

Production designer Alice Normington echoed Stone’s sentiment, explaining that while the yacht was incredibly luxurious, the cast and crew wouldn’t have enjoyed spending two weeks on board. She pointed out that the story focuses on the feeling of being confined, and that even extreme luxury can feel stifling and oppressive.
Despite having to follow some firm rules, Stone felt the effort was worthwhile for the movie. He described the yacht’s design as exceptionally tasteful, noting it clearly prioritized creating relaxing yet stunning spaces for people to enjoy.
The Woman in Cabin 10 is streaming on Netflix now.
