VALORANT patch 11.08 includes significant updates to both the Pearl and Abyss maps. Here’s a breakdown of what’s changing.
VALORANT is getting some big changes with Patch 11.08! Pearl and Abyss maps are being completely updated, and Riot Games is making a lot of other adjustments – like to agent abilities and rifles. The goal is to emphasize player skill and strategy over simply using a lot of special abilities and gadgets, kicking off a new phase for the game.
Okay, so here’s the deal with the map updates! Everything’s going live on October 15th, 2025, which is awesome. And even better, the Game Changers Championship will be played on these new versions of the maps, so we’ll get to see pros battling it out on the updated layouts!
Pearl changes focused on the B site
Riot Games redesigned the Portuguese-inspired map to encourage more direct confrontations between teams. Specifically, changes to the B site are intended to discourage defenders from holding long-range positions after the spike is planted. According to Riot, they want planting on the main site to be more challenging and less predictable for attackers.
The long view from B Long has been blocked by a new structure. This means if a teammate plants the spike on the far side of this structure, players entering from the main entrance won’t be able to see it.

A new angle has been added to B Long, providing more protection when you’re being heavily pressured or defending a push. While you can still play from B Long after the bomb is planted, it’s not as strong a position as it used to be. These changes were made because retakes, particularly with the current emphasis on using abilities, often felt too difficult.

A new angle has opened up on the left side of the B site, creating new options for both attackers and defenders. Players can now use this spot to hold the area and get shots off, or it can be a strong position to defend the spike after planting it.

As a fan, I’ve noticed that the recent changes to the Abyss map are really centered around the B site, just like they were with Pearl. They’ve tweaked the ways to get to mid a little, but the biggest updates are definitely all happening at B. It feels like Riot is really focusing on that area of the map!
A more defensive Abyss
Similar to Pearl, the Abyss map hasn’t been widely popular with players. Before, it was often too easy for attackers to get onto the B site, making it hard for defenders to hold it. Plus, after attackers planted the spike, it was tough for defenders to retake because there were so many possible attack angles.
When you arrive on the map, you’ll notice a reduced area near the tower. This change stops Omen from teleporting to a specific corner and potentially putting you in a tough spot. The tower itself will also be a bit lower to the ground.

The corridor connecting B Danger to the main area of the map has been updated. A new corner has been added under the tower, which gives players a strong position to defend or watch the B Link area after planting the spike. This also makes it easier to see opponents jumping down from the tower, preventing surprise attacks.

There’s a new area near the large box in the middle of the map. This spot lets you plant the spike and then hold better defensive positions. Before the changes, whoever planted in that location was very vulnerable to attacks from multiple angles – the tower, anyone sneaking in from main, and even teammates on the site. Now, there’s a safer place to position yourself after planting, giving you an advantage during the post-plant phase.

A new element has been added to the B site to give players better chances for trades and more favorable shooting positions. This improves gameplay for both attacking and defending teams, but also increases the danger of holding the main area after planting the bomb.
Abyss mid
The updates for the Abyss map aren’t finished! The Mid area is also receiving changes. After adjustments to the B site, the bend connecting Mid to B Main will have new angles, giving players better opportunities during rotations. Attackers moving from A to B will now have one more corner to check, making the map’s strategy more complex.

The Mid Bend area is being moved slightly. It’s being positioned further forward, closer to the central boxes, which will make it harder for attackers to quickly rotate to the B site from Mid. However, this change will also give lurkers an easier route to access the B site through the Mid Bend.

The central catwalk will be easier for attackers to approach. This will likely cause defenders to retreat a little, avoiding direct confrontations within that narrow space.
