Gints Zilbalodis Reveals Limbo Movie Update After Flow’s Success

After the Oscar win for his short film *Flow*, director Gints Zilbalodis has shared news about his upcoming movie, *Limbo*. The film is expected to be a new and innovative step for the talented Latvian filmmaker.

Gints Zilbalodis announces he has finished script for Limbo

Filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the script for his new film, Limbo, is complete. This news follows an earlier announcement from producer Matīss Kaža, who shared at the Locarno Film Festival that Limbo is currently in the pre-production phase.

Gints Zilbalodis is working on all aspects of the project at the same time, according to Kaža. He’s currently creating the animatic, but is also writing the script and composing a lot of music to use with it. Essentially, everything is happening concurrently, Kaža explained to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kaža believes Limbo will push Zilbalodis creatively. He explained that this is the first time Gints will be incorporating dialogue into his work, meaning actors will be part of the project. Kaža emphasized that Gints consistently seeks out new artistic challenges.

Gints Zilbalodis’ upcoming game, Limbo, planned for release in 2028, will build on his unique creative style. But unlike his previous game, Flow, Limbo will feature dialogue and include voice acting.

As a big supporter of Limbo, I was really interested to hear Kaža talk about how important it is to keep Zilbalodis independent. He explained that for those of us working on the project, it’s vital that it remains a truly independent European animation. We’re collaborating with our fantastic French partners at Sacrebleu Productions, but the core goal is to let Gints continue working his magic with his unique style, and for us, as the lead producers, to maintain control over the final version of the film.

With the script complete and exciting creative work still to come, the animated film *Limbo* is becoming a highly anticipated release for 2028.
