Steve Martin fondly remembered his friend and fellow actor Deane Keaton by posting a playbill from one of their earliest performances together, when they were both starting out in college.
People around the world who admired her work are remembering Diane Keaton after her unexpected death on Saturday at age 79. The acclaimed actress, known for films like Annie Hall and The Godfather, leaves behind a remarkable legacy.
Martin, known for appearing with the actress in the 1991 film *Father of the Bride*, remembered working with her years earlier in a college production of the musical *Carousel*.
On Sunday, the 80-year-old comedian posted a program from a student play on Instagram. The play was performed when both the comedian and another student were young acting students at Santa Ana College in Southern California.
The long list of actors reveals that Diane Hall, who was then known by her birth name, played the lead role of Carrie Pipperidge in the musical.
He shared a photo of a playbill from a 1964 college production of *Carousel*, noting that Diane Keaton (then known as Diane Hall) played the lead role and he worked as a stagehand.

Martin and Keaton both achieved great success in their careers, and they later starred as a married couple in *Father of the Bride* and its two follow-up films.
Martin shared a screenshot from an Interview magazine piece featuring a playful exchange. Martin Short asked who was sexier – him or Steve Martin – and Diane Keaton jokingly responded, ‘You’re both idiots.’
Sharing the post, Diane’s Father of the Bride co-star said he wasn’t sure where it originally came from, but it perfectly captured their wonderful connection.
Few details about Keaton’s death are known right now, and her family has requested privacy, according to a spokesperson for the family who spoke with People magazine.
Diane Keaton often worked with director Woody Allen, most famously playing Annie Hall, the endearing partner of his character, Alvy Singer.
The film won Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay, solidifying Keaton’s status as a leading actress and a uniquely stylish icon.
The actress became well-known for appearing in eight films directed by Woody Allen, including classics like *Play It Again, Sam*, *Manhattan*, and *Manhattan Murder Mystery*.
Diane Keaton is known for her role as Kay Adams in The Godfather movies, where she played the love interest and later wife of Michael Corleone, portrayed by Al Pacino.

Besides her iconic role in the Allen films, audiences loved Diane Keaton as the sweet and anxious mother in the 1991 comedy *Father of the Bride*, where she and Steve Martin played parents planning a lavish wedding for their daughter.
Towards the end of her career, Diane Keaton appeared in two films focusing on older women. In *Book Club*, she explored the idea that love doesn’t have an age limit, and in *Poms*, she played a woman who finds new life and friendship by starting a cheerleading squad at a retirement community after receiving a terminal diagnosis.
Diane Keaton has won a BAFTA and Golden Globe award and was nominated for an Oscar three additional times for her roles in Reds, Marvin’s Room, and Something’s Gotta Give.
