I’ve been watching Sarah Abo closely, and even with all the talk about Samantha Armytage potentially taking her place on Today, she’s really holding it together. She seems determined to stay positive despite the uncertainty, and honestly, I admire her for it.
I noticed while watching the breakfast show this Monday that the lovely presenter handled things with her usual professionalism, appearing completely unfazed alongside Karl Stefanovic. It was a ‘business as usual’ vibe, which I always admire – staying grounded and focused is key!
Despite rumors about her job security, the 39-year-old presenter remained cheerful and energetic on air, wearing a vibrant red outfit.
Reports over the weekend suggest that Today is planning significant changes to try and improve its ratings in the competitive morning news landscape.
Sources say Karl is reportedly in discussions to replace his ‘Today’ co-host, who has been with the show since 2023, with high-profile television personality Natalie Armytage.
According to The Australian, the recent changes to the show’s on-air talent are a last-ditch effort to beat Seven’s ‘Sunrise’ in the morning TV ratings.

Okay, seriously, can we talk about Karl and Ally? Everyone’s saying they’re the absolute *dream team* and I totally agree! I just *know* they’re going to finally knock Sunrise off their high horse and make Today the number one morning show. I’m already picturing it – it’s going to be amazing!
The network hopes to repeat the success ‘Sunrise’ had in 2013 when Samantha Armytage joined the show and boosted its ratings.
After leaving Sunrise in 2021, Armytage became the host of Farmer Wants A Wife and is now preparing to host The Golden Bachelor.
Nine CEO Matt Stanton didn’t address rumors about Karl Stefanovic’s future on Today, and offered a vague answer when asked if David Koch was joining Stefanovic as a co-host.
“To be honest, I haven’t looked at it closely enough to have an opinion,” Stanton said this week.
Abo joined Today in 2023, replacing outgoing host Allison Langdon.
Langdon revealed she was leaving her position in 2022. Soon after, she became the host of A Current Affair, taking over from Tracy Grimshaw, who had hosted the show for many years.
According to The Australian, Abo’s desire for a raise is one of the reasons they’re changing things up.

Stefanovic recently received a lucrative, long-term contract from Nine, but the network is monitoring how well his shows are performing with viewers.
According to a June report in The Australian, the breakfast show host has secured a contract worth $3 million annually.
Mediaweek reports that Abo earns $800,000 annually, which demonstrates a significant difference in pay compared to his counterpart, revealing a gender pay gap.
According to sources, network executives at the North Sydney headquarters recently collected funds to offer Stefanovic a contract worth approximately $3 million annually, as reported by the Media Diary.
Stefanovic was earning $2.8 million annually and was expected to receive a substantial raise due to his continued role as the host of the popular breakfast program.
The publication reports that Nine agreed to the TV presenter’s requests after he indicated he would leave if they didn’t meet his terms for a new contract.
The announcement was surprising, especially since competing breakfast show hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington together earn only around $2 million.
