I Was Already Pumped For Even Peters And Ashton Kutcher’s New FX Show, And Ryan Murphy Just Made It Sound Like Nothing Else On TV

Ryan Murphy, a prolific television producer known for juggling several shows at once, is having a moment with recent successes like Monster: The Ed Gein Story on Netflix. His shows 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville recently premiered on ABC, and he also has new projects like the legal drama All’s Fair starring Kim Kardashian, the anthology series Love Story, and an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s The Shards in the works. But the project I’m most looking forward to is The Beauty, a horror-thriller based on a comic book.

I recently came across this really intriguing premise for a film called *The Beauty*. It’s based on a comic, and the story centers around this serum that promises to make you young and strong again. Sounds amazing, right? But there’s a huge catch! This early version of the formula doesn’t quite work right – it gives people a shorter life and turns them incredibly violent. It’s up to a team of government agents to investigate and figure out what’s going on with it all. It’s a cool concept that I’m excited to see play out.

At New York Comic-Con, while speaking with the cast (according to Entertainment Weekly), Ryan Murphy described the upcoming show and hinted at the serious threats and risks that will be central to the story.

As you’d expect from a science fiction show, there’s a twist: people only have about 855 days to live before they spontaneously explode. The story starts with a strange phenomenon – supermodels around the world are suddenly exploding, and these events are being caught on camera. That’s when Evan and Rebecca are brought in to solve the mystery.

Murphy is discussing Evan Peters and Rebecca Hall, who appear to be playing Drew Foster and Kara Vaughn. These characters are comic book agents investigating a series of important deaths, which pulls them into a large government conspiracy. Ashton Kutcher’s character probably plays a role in this conspiracy.

Ashton Kutcher recently appeared in the 2023 Netflix film *Your Place or Mine* and made a guest appearance in Season 1 of *That ‘90s Show* alongside Mila Kunis. Now, he’s back in a TV series as the wealthy, tech-focused antagonist in *The Beauty*. While he’s positioned as the ‘bad guy,’ he doesn’t necessarily see himself that way, and many people actually benefit from and enjoy the youth-enhancing product he creates.

Ryan Murphy Makes The Beauty Sound Like Nothing Else On TV

While *The Beauty*’s plot might initially feel like other crime shows, it’s actually quite original. Creator Lena Murphy explained that the series intentionally blends many different genres and tones, saying:

As a film fan, what really grabbed me about this series is how it fearlessly blends so many different genres. Seriously, it’s got these incredible action scenes, but then throws in some truly unsettling body horror. And it’s not all thrills and chills – there’s a genuinely sweet love story woven in, alongside a really fun buddy-comedy dynamic. Plus, the villain is fantastic – a proper standout character. It just works, somehow!

It’s rare to find a comedy duo film that also features significant body horror. *Tucker & Dale vs Evil* immediately comes to mind, but there aren’t many others like it. Even that film, while popular, didn’t really center around a strong romance or have truly outstanding action scenes.

It’s rare to see Evan Peters play the good guy and Ashton Kutcher the bad guy – especially in the same series. This is a first!

Murphy’s take also explains why the comic book feels more like a horror story than anything else – a genre not typically associated with its stars like Ashton Kutcher, Jeremy Pope, and Anthony Ramos. This even applies to Bella Hadid, who plays one of the models featured in the story. Knowing Evan Peters’ experience with dark themes – he received acclaim for his role as Jeffrey Dahmer in Monster and starred in multiple seasons of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story – makes me even more eager to see his performance.

While there’s no confirmed release date yet, Murphy has suggested that viewers with FX or Hulu subscriptions can expect *The Beauty* to premiere around the third week of January 2026.
