Bandai Namco has officially revealed Miary Zo’s gameplay for the final DLC character in Tekken 8’s Season 2. The reveal showcases her distinctive fighting style, character design, and powerful abilities.
Tekken 8 players excited about the Ogre character will love Miary Zo! Bandai Namco just released a gameplay trailer showing off her incredible moves, and it confirms she is indeed connected to Ogre, just as we previously predicted – we even nicknamed her ‘Waifu Ogre’ first!
Bandai Namco revealed the trailer for Miary Zo, a new fighter from Madagascar, at EVO France. Before this reveal, fans had only seen a very short clip of the final downloadable character for Tekken 8’s second season.
Miary Zo’s design was updated after players felt her first appearance didn’t quite match the original concept art and looked too common. Bandai Namco revised her face, as shown in the latest gameplay trailer. Notably, Miary Zo is the first officially revealed character of African descent in the Tekken series.
Miary Zo Gameplay Trailer: Lemurs, magic, and mayhem
The gameplay trailer for Miary Zo showcases a fighting style heavily inspired by her love of animals, especially lemurs. The trailer starts with her standard attacks, but quickly demonstrates her unique ability to summon weapons during battle when she uses her third costume – a feature similar to Anna Williams.
Miary Zo fights with a glowing blue staff and bracelet, which shine brighter as she prepares to strike.
Miary Zo’s blue staff gives her excellent reach and looks really cool. We see her cleverly use it to dodge a low attack from Xiaoyu – quite the twist! – and then follow up with a potentially damaging Heat Engager combo. It’s a brutal move!
The bracelet also calls upon snake spirits, allowing you to grab enemies and perform impressive attacks.
Miary Zo’s powerful Rage Art summons a massive serpent that erupts from the earth. She leaps onto its back, takes to the air, and then crashes down on her opponent, creating a huge explosion.
Miary Zo link to Ogre confirmed in Tekken 8 gameplay trailer
Tekken 8’s Game Director, Harada, has suggested that Miary Zo’s red eyes are important to understanding her past. The latest trailer also confirmed long-held fan theories about a connection between her and the character Ogre.
In her first gameplay trailer, Miary Zo confidently stated, ‘I could *tell* you I have the power of a fighting god, or I could just *show* you,’ before demonstrating her strength – potentially hinting at a third form for the character Ogre.
If you’re new to the Tekken series, Ogre is a major villain often called the “God of Fighting.” He earns this title because he can learn and use the fighting styles of anyone he defeats, essentially copying their moves. It’s a pretty useful ability!
Ogre first appeared as the main villain in Tekken 3, and has since appeared in two distinct forms: the more human-like Ancient Ogre, and the terrifying True Ogre. Both of these forms were briefly shown in a preview trailer, hinting at a new version of the character.
What it all means for Tekken 8’s story
This suggests Miary Zo might be a new incarnation of Ogre, appearing in his third form, or perhaps just someone channeling his power. This could explain her red eye, the energy she radiates, and the imagery of a mythical guardian surrounding her.
I’m really hoping Bandai Namco is hinting at Ogre coming back in Tekken 8’s Season 3 – that new form they showed looks amazing! But honestly, it feels like that’s probably not what’s going to happen, which is a bit of a bummer.
Tekken 8 Miary Zo Release Date
Miary Zo will be playable in Tekken 8 starting December 5th, with those who have early access able to play her from December 2nd. This makes her release one of the quickest DLC additions ever for a Tekken game, coming only seven weeks after Armor King was released.
Tekken 8 Miary Zo Costumes
During the gameplay trailer Tekken fans got the first look at Miary Zo’s four preset costumes.
- Costume 1: Tropical and island-inspired, with patterned fabrics, ribbons, and hybrid athletic gear.
- Costume 2: A pink-and-violet remix of her default look
- Costume 3: Fantasy-inspired form symbolizing her “fighting god” powers
- Costume 4: Streetwear-inspired cap, sleeveless top, and shorts
Costume 1
The first costume draws inspiration from tropical and island styles. Miary Zo wears a vibrant, bikini-style top with ribbons that wrap around her shoulders and chest, paired with black mini-shorts, a short skirt, padded gloves, and additional arm decorations.
Costume 2
The gameplay trailer doesn’t show Costume 2 completely, but it appears to be a pink and violet version of Costume 1. I think it’s the most visually appealing of the four costumes.
Costume 3
Miary Zo’s third costume is detailed and appears to reflect her powerful, god-like fighting abilities. It’s a unique blend of practical martial arts clothing and fantastical, stylish design.
Costume 4
Miary Zo’s fourth costume strongly resembles Azuzena’s style. She’s wearing a cap, a dark sleeveless top, and light-colored shorts. It’s the most polished of her costumes so far, ideal for players who prioritize looking cool over sticking to the character’s backstory.
Final Thoughts: Armor King and Waifu Ogre, A Legendary Q4
Miary Zo is shaping up to be a fantastic character in Tekken 8, offering surprisingly complex gameplay despite her initially cute design. Bandai Namco is positioning Tekken 8 for a strong finish to the year, and fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
Armor King and Waifu Ogre in one quarter? Tekken fans couldn’t ask for more.
