Sources say Diane Keaton’s health has declined recently, and those around her didn’t realize how serious it was.

According to a family representative, the Academy Award-winning actress died in California on Saturday.

The family asks for privacy during this difficult time, and no other information about her passing has been shared.

A friend told People magazine that her health deteriorated rapidly, which was devastating for those who cared about her. They added that it was completely shocking, particularly because she was known for being so strong and full of life.

In her last few months, she was cared for privately by her immediate family.

‘Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening.’

Keaton unexpectedly listed her beloved home for sale in March, even though she had previously stated she planned to live there permanently.

As news of her death spread, Hollywood stars paid tribute. 

Bette Midler, who starred alongside Diane Keaton in *The First Wives Club*, was among the first to express her sadness online. She wrote that she was heartbroken by the news, describing Keaton as genuinely funny and refreshingly free of the competitive spirit often found in big stars. Midler emphasized that Keaton was always authentic and true to herself – exactly as she appeared to the public.

She was a major star in 1970s films and continued to be popular with successful movies like Baby Boom, Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, and Something’s Gotta Give, solidifying her place in film history.

Recently, she won over new fans with the Book Club movies, showing that people of all ages still enjoy her work.

Diane Keaton, born Diane Hall on January 5, 1946, in Los Angeles, showed early signs of creativity that would define her successful and unique Hollywood career.

After graduating high school, she began her acting training at Santa Ana College. She then moved to New York City to study at the renowned Neighborhood Playhouse.

Keaton made her Broadway debut in 1968 as part of the original cast of Hair. 

She spent nine months in the show but refused to disrobe during performances.  

She next auditioned for the Woody Allen film, *Play It Again, Sam*, immediately impressing everyone with the natural charisma and comedic timing she’d become known for.

Her acting was recognized with a Tony Award nomination, a significant early achievement before she became famous in Hollywood.

Two years after starting her career, she appeared in the film *Lovers and Other Strangers*. However, she became widely known in 1972 when she played Kay Adams-Corleone alongside Al Pacino in *The Godfather*.

This role launched her to fame and cemented her status as a star in a beloved film series.

She achieved another major success in 1977 with the film *Annie Hall*, winning the Academy Award for Best Actress and establishing herself as a talented star in both comedy and romance.

She once shared with People that her favorite film was an obvious choice. Apparently, Woody Allen wasn’t sure it would be successful at first. He didn’t have much faith in it, often dismissing it as ‘just another sitcom.’

Throughout the 1980s and 90s, Diane Keaton established herself as a highly acclaimed actress, starring in memorable films such as Reds, Baby Boom, and Father of the Bride.

She became widely known and loved for her role in *Baby Boom*, where she played a successful businesswoman unexpectedly becoming a mother.

She once jokingly said that if she were the mother, she wouldn’t have appreciated how roughly the babies were handled.

Keaton also appeared in television, most famously co-starring with Jude Law in the popular 2016 miniseries, The Young Pope.

After many years of work in film, she was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at a special event held by the American Film Institute.

In August 2022, the famous actor received another honor: a hand and footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The event was a special gathering of her family—her two children and sister, Dorrie Hall—to celebrate her life and achievements.

Looking back on the achievement, Keaton explained it was a complete surprise. He said it ‘just happened,’ and he was incredibly happy – and still is.

Diane Keaton continued to be a popular actress in Hollywood into the 2000s, and she reunited with director Nancy Meyers for the hit film *Something’s Gotta Give*. Her performance alongside Jack Nicholson in that movie is considered one of her best later roles.

Away from the screen, Keaton led a fiercely independent life. 

In her fifties, she adopted two children, a daughter named Dexter and a son named Duke, and chose to remain single. She had previously been linked to several famous actors, including Woody Allen, Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, and Jack Nicholson, but never married.

She once remarked that, as far as she knew, she was unique among her and previous generations for having never been married.

I believe I made the right decision not to get married, and I’m happy with that choice.
