Kate Cassidy is sharing her experience with grief after the unexpected death of her boyfriend, Liam Payne, almost a year ago.
The 26-year-old social media personality shared that she experienced a two-month period of depression following the tragic death of the One Direction singer, who fell from a hotel balcony on October 16, 2024.
She explained to Page Six that she spent a lot of time coping with grief and pain, and didn’t feel motivated to live her life, at a recent event supporting the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
After a few weeks, she finally understood that she needed to start living her life and get out of bed each day.
Kate said she started by setting an alarm to get out of bed one hour earlier day after day.
She started exercising and eating a healthy diet, and she began to focus on living a fulfilling life, both for her own well-being and for the sake of Liam.

Now she says she believes staying busy contributes to her maintaining a positive headspace.
She shared that she prefers to start her day early with exercise, like a planned workout or a walk, and healthy eating. She believes staying active helps her stay mentally clear and healthy.
As a lifestyle expert, I often talk about the impact people have on our lives, and this story really highlights that. When speaking about her late partner, a woman beautifully described how he had this incredible ability to brighten up any space just by walking into it. She said he was genuinely sweet and had a wonderful sense of humor. It was clear she felt he was one of a kind, someone she knew she’d never encounter again, and it was such a touching tribute to their relationship.
She thought to herself that, strangely, she was happy he’d only been a single, special person in her life. He truly was the best she’d ever known.
The autopsy showed that 31-year-old Liam had both alcohol and cocaine in his system when he died.
Investigators determined the celebrity died while trying to get out of his hotel room, after hotel staff had locked him inside.
After a man fell from a balcony on the third floor of the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, five people were originally accused of being responsible for his death.
In February, the BBC reported that charges against a friend of Liam’s and two colleagues had been withdrawn.

In September, Liam’s girlfriend, who was upset about their breakup, posted some fan-made pictures of them created using artificial intelligence.
She shared the incredibly realistic portraits on her Instagram Stories, adding, ‘Thank you for creating these. AI is both amazing and concerning.’
In August, she bravely held back tears while baking a cake to celebrate what would have been her late boyfriend’s 32nd birthday.
She shared a video with the message, ‘Happy birthday, Liam. I’m sure you’re still enjoying sweets up in heaven! I did my best with this, and it’s the thought that matters. Hope you like it.’
Kate also uploaded another video, a montage of memories featuring the two of them.
The photo was shared with a heartfelt message: ‘August 29, 1993 – a wonderful day for a truly special person. I miss you terribly. Happy Birthday, Liam. I wish we could be together to celebrate, but maybe we’ll get that chance in the future.’
