Stephen King has recommended many movies and TV shows throughout his career, but the French Netflix series *Marianne* especially disturbed him.
The famous author, known for writing scary stories, once described the show as ideal for people like him who love being frightened.
In a popular post on X (formerly Twitter), King noted the show has moments of humor reminiscent of ‘Stranger Things,’ and, with characteristic modesty, suggested it also carries a similar feel to his own work.
Marianne, a French horror series created by Samuel Bodin, centers around Emma Larsimon, a successful novelist who realizes the terrifying witch she writes about may be real.
After receiving a disturbing warning from a childhood friend, Emma goes back to her quiet seaside hometown, only to discover that the terrifying stories she wrote as a child are now becoming real.
This eight-episode series mixes witchcraft, demonic possession, and intense psychological horror, quickly becoming a truly terrifying experience that many viewers and critics consider one of Netflix’s most unsettling original shows.
When King tweeted his seal of approval back in 2019, horror lovers immediately took notice.

Someone else commented that it’s strange how a recommendation from an author they love can make them stop reading and start watching TV instead.
The movie quickly gained popularity, with many people adding it to their Halloween viewing lists. One viewer said it was enough to convince them to watch immediately, while another cautioned that it was quite scary and best not watched by oneself.
An IMDb reviewer praised the show’s strong performances, well-crafted atmosphere, and effective plot twists, adding that the cliffhanger ending definitely warrants another season.
