Barry Keoghan reveals his Beatles makeover for the first time after signing up to play Ringo Starr in ambitious four film anthology as he attends the premiere of Crime 101

Actor Barry Keoghan sent Beatles fans into a frenzy on Wednesday when he hinted he’ll be playing Ringo Starr in a planned series of four films about the band.

Barry Keoghan will portray the iconic drummer in an upcoming film about the band’s history, directed by Sam Mendes. The movie is planned as a special cinematic release in 2028.

While promoting his new movie, Crime 101, in London, the Irish actor offered fans a sneak peek at his currently filming project.

Actor Barry Keoghan, 33, closely resembled Ringo Starr on the red carpet at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square, sporting a haircut similar to the iconic ‘moptop’ style made famous by all four Beatles in the mid-1960s.

The actor, sporting a leather biker look more reminiscent of a motorcycle gang than The Beatles, celebrated the premiere of their new thriller alongside his co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Monica Barbaro, Halle Berry, and Chris Hemsworth.

Sony Pictures has revealed plans for four movies about the iconic band, with Harris Dickinson set to play John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas last April, where the cast was also present, Sir Sam called the films the “first movies designed to be watched like a binge-worthy series.”

This is the first time Apple Corps and The Beatles – Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison – have allowed their complete life stories and music to be used in a scripted movie.

Ringo previously appeared to let slip that Saltburn star Keoghan had taken on the role.

He jokingly told Entertainment Tonight that he imagines the actor is probably taking drum lessons – and hopes there aren’t too many of them!

While promoting Gladiator II, director Ridley Scott mentioned that Paul Mescal had committed to a Beatles-themed project. Scott explained that Mescal was already scheduled to work on this other film, which might prevent him from being available for Scott’s next movie.

Keoghan recently confessed he was too nervous to make eye contact when he first met Beatles icon Ringo Starr.

The actor said their meeting was pleasant, but admitted on Jimmy Kimmel Live that he was too awestruck to look the drummer in the eye.

He remembered meeting the man at his home, where the man played the drums. He invited me to play as well, but I wasn’t drumming with Ringo.

When asked if he had a chance to get to know the musician, he explained that he did, but found it difficult to make eye contact while speaking with him. He admitted to feeling nervous, just as he was now, but the musician reassured him, saying, ‘You can look at me.’

I’ve always been fascinated by The Beatles, and I remember really enjoying ‘Nowhere Boy.’ It was a great look into John Lennon’s younger years growing up in Liverpool, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson did an amazing job playing him.

The BBC drama Lennon Naked featured Christopher Eccleston (known from Doctor Who) as John Lennon. Meanwhile, the film Chapter 27 portrayed Lennon’s 1980 murder in New York, with Jared Leto (of Dallas Buyers Club fame) playing the role of his killer, Mark David Chapman.

The Beatles, who first came together in 1960, are the best-selling music artists ever and are incredibly influential. They topped the UK charts with 18 number-one singles and 16 number-one albums.

They disbanded in 1970 following the release of their twelfth studio album, Let It Be.
