Ryan Reynolds didn’t mention his wife, Blake Lively, during a recent public appearance on Wednesday, even though he jokingly teased her onstage just two weeks prior.
Ryan Reynolds, known for playing Deadpool, recently revealed his difficulties getting Bill Murray to participate in his upcoming documentary about John Candy. Reynolds, 48, shared his frustration with a live audience on September 25th, explaining that he’s a producer on the film, titled *John Candy: I Like Me*.
Oh my god, after *finally* getting a call back – I mean, I left him forty messages! – it was the worst possible time. I was with my wife, she’s an actress, and we were about to walk into this huge gala, a really fancy one, and then *he* called. I just… lost it. I totally snapped at her, I couldn’t help it! It was him, okay? It was *him* calling after all this time, and everything else just disappeared.
He shared a story from his New Jersey tour stop, recalling how he and his wife were about to enter a venue when he received a text message. It was from Bill Murray, which he excitedly announced, saying, “Bill Murray!”
He lowered his voice, mimicking how he’d spoken to Lively, and continued, ‘She said, “We have to go in!”‘
‘I’m like, “F**k you!” he shared, spilling the derogatory insult he said to his wife.

It’s unknown which event the Canadian actor meant, or when this conversation happened.
During an event at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn on Wednesday, a visibly embarrassed Reynolds shared a revised version of a story, omitting any reference to his wife.
He explained how hard it was to reach the Ghostbusters actor. He’d finally gotten a phone number and called, but it went straight to voicemail – surprisingly, for a Greek shipping company. He left a message, and repeated this process around twenty times before the actor finally returned his call.
Reynolds left out the part of the story where Murray called him while he was with Lively, and Murray claimed Reynolds completely ignored him afterward. Reynolds then said he became worried and sent a video of himself and his children in an attempt to get Murray’s attention.
It was around 11:30 PM when my kids suddenly woke up. My daughter came up behind me while I was dealing with something, and I told her not to do whatever she was about to. I was actually leaving a voice message for Bill at the time, and I was worried she’d accidentally hurt him – she’s only five years old.
‘And then my son shows up too, he’s two… I go, “Tell Bill to do the d**n interview.”‘
In the end, the actor was convinced by his children. Ryan explained, ‘It’s impossible to refuse a child like that – anyone who would is heartless.’

He continued, saying that just a second later he received a text asking, “What do you need? Where should I go to help with JC?”
The couple celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary on September 9th and have four children: 10-year-old James, 8-year-old Inez, 5-year-old Betty, and 2-year-old Olin.
The documentary includes interviews with several people who knew and worked with the late John Candy, who sadly passed away from a heart attack in 1994. These include well-known actors and comedians like Bill, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Macaulay Culkin, Tom Hanks, Andrea Martin, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, and Conan O’Brien.
Instead of talking about his wife, he invited his close friend Hugh Jackman onstage. They were joined by director Colin Hanks, Chris Candy (son of the late John Candy), and moderator Daniel Pasternack.
It’s called “An Evening with…” and features me, some other really talented people, and friends who make appearances.
‘And I’m very proud and very lucky and actually honored to be able to call this person a friend of mine for 17, maybe 18 years. His name is Hugh Michael Jackman,’ he said.
Hugh Jackman, known for playing Wolverine, appeared on stage with a band-aid near his left eyebrow, which worried those watching.
Hugh playfully recounted how a friend jokingly injured him, telling the audience, ‘He’s a great guy, but he greeted me with a smack to the head!’

Ryan replied with a warning: if someone started tap dancing near his trumpet, he’d hit them. He demonstrated what he meant with a sound effect.
Oh my gosh, Ryan Reynolds is *hilarious* just like Deadpool! Seriously, everyone says so. Even Hugh Jackman – can you believe it? – compared him to John Candy! It’s true, he’s naturally funny, just a total comedic genius like his character. I’ve always known it!
He, along with Blake, have made playful digs at each other in past interviews.
Blake Lively, known from Gossip Girl, playfully described her relationship with Ryan Reynolds as being like marriage to her best friend and jokingly referred to him as her ‘fifth child.’ Reynolds has shared that Lively is the one who manages everything at home.
When Ryan shared the offensive comment he’d made to Blake, fans reacted negatively and criticized him for it.
Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter online, and honestly, it’s a bit much. One person was really upset that a certain someone might use harsh language with their partner – they emphasized that respect is key in *their* marriage, and that’s wonderful! Another commenter just wants to see this person ‘canceled,’ which, you know, feels a bit extreme. It just reminds me that everyone has different boundaries and expectations in relationships, and social media can really amplify things quickly. Ultimately, it’s about finding what works for you and communicating respectfully.
Honestly, I recently saw a comment that really stuck with me – someone told Ryan to ‘keep talking’ because, in their words, the more he speaks, the more people dislike him *and* his wife. It was a pretty harsh and unnecessary jab, and it just highlights how quickly things can turn negative online. It’s a good reminder that sometimes, silence really *is* golden, and that dragging loved ones into public disputes is never a good look. It’s something I always advise my clients – protect your peace and your family!
‘He used to be so funny..now he’s just obnoxious,’ another added.

The couple is in the midst of explosive legal proceedings.
In December 2024, actress Lively filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against her ‘It Ends With Us’ co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. She alleged that Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, tried to damage her reputation. Lively also stated she suffered significant emotional distress as a result of the alleged harassment and subsequent actions.
Both Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios refuted her claims. He then sued her for defamation and attempted coercion, but the $400 million case was thrown out in June 2025.
In May, Lively decided to drop her claims of emotional distress, as stated by her lawyer.
Baldoni and Wayfarer’s lawyers requested Lively’s medical and mental health records in court, hoping to demonstrate she hadn’t suffered significant distress. They also asked the judge to dismiss her claims of emotional distress permanently, preventing her from bringing them up again in the future.
Since the plaintiff dropped the emotional distress claims, the judge decided that Lively doesn’t need to submit her medical records to the court.
Although not directly involved in the lawsuit, Reynolds has been a consistent supporter of Lively during the federal case, which is set to go to trial in March 2026.
A new documentary about John Candy, called ‘John Candy: I Like Me,’ will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 10th.
