Alien’s Sigourney Weaver Has Met With Disney About Reprising Ripley Role

Sigourney Weaver is in talks with Disney about possibly returning as Ellen Ripley in a new *Alien* movie.

Sigourney Weaver first portrayed Ripley in Ridley Scott’s 1979 film, Alien. She continued in the role for three sequels – Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), and Alien Resurrection (1997) – but hasn’t appeared in any of the Alien films since.

What did Sigourney Weaver say about returning to Alien?

Sigourney Weaver recently told The Hollywood Reporter that she’s open to playing Ripley again in a future Alien movie.

My friend Walter Hill wrote a 50-page outline for what Ripley’s life could be like now, and it’s fantastic. I recently spoke with representatives from Fox and Disney about it. I’ve always believed Ripley deserved peace after everything she went through, but Walter’s writing feels very relevant to the way society often punishes those who try to do good.

They see her as a challenge, so she’s been sidelined a bit. But I really think the first fifty pages are excellent, and I’m considering collaborating with Walter to develop the rest of the story. As an English major, I focus on the narrative itself. If a story is well-written and engaging, I don’t worry about its genre. I never used to think much about genres at all, just whether a story was good. While genres are now more clearly defined, I’m happy I didn’t focus on that and instead let this story guide me.

Currently, a new Alien film starring Sigourney Weaver hasn‘t been confirmed. However, a sequel to ‘Alien: Romulus’ is being developed, and fans are hoping ‘Alien: Earth’ will be renewed for a second season.
