Matlock star David Del Rio’s wife hits out at his co-star Leah Lewis after sexual assault allegation

Actor David Del Rio was let go from the show *Matlock* following a sexual assault accusation, and his wife, Katherine, has now publicly responded with a strong statement.

CBS Studios reportedly fired David, 38, after learning about an incident that occurred on set involving his 28-year-old co-star, Leah Lewis, according to Deadline.

Katherine used her Instagram Stories to harshly criticize Leah, 28, calling her ‘the most disturbing person’ she’d ever encountered, and then made fun of how Leah reacted to the recent drama.

Katherine described Leah as the most unsettling person she’d ever encountered, accompanying the comment with a very close-up photo of Leah’s face.

When accusations against David surfaced, Leah expressed gratitude for her fans’ support and shared she was with her mother. Katherine quickly responded by sarcastically repeating almost the exact same message.

Katherine shared a photo with her mother, expressing that they’re healing and staying strong after a difficult situation involving Leah. She thanked everyone for their kindness and support.

Both of the posts appear to have since been deleted. 

The Daily Mail has contacted David, Katherine, and Leah’s representatives for a statement, but they haven’t responded yet.

A CBS Studios spokesperson declined to comment.

Katherine shared her post soon after reports surfaced that her husband had been let go from the show following an accusation of sexual assault.

David, the actor who played Billy Martinez, left the show after CBS Studios learned about an incident that happened on set last week, according to the Daily Mail.

According to Deadline, the incident involving Lewis reportedly happened on September 26th. Following an internal investigation, Del Rio was allegedly removed from the set on October 2nd, which was also the day the incident came to light.

Sources at The Daily Mail report that Del Rio will no longer appear in the Kathy Bates-led series, and their character has been removed from upcoming episodes.

Lewis addressed the recent controversy on Instagram Thursday by sharing a photo of a hug with her mother and thanking her supporters.

Leah shared that her mother is with her, and they are facing the future with love and resilience. She feels safe and grateful for all the support and kindness she’s received. She emphasized that strength is what’s helping them get through this, and that’s the most important thing to remember.

According to Variety, the Emmy-nominated series is currently filming its second season and has completed roughly half of the new episodes.

The show will take a short, planned break starting this month and continuing through November, after the first half of its second season finishes airing.

According to sources, Del Rio was escorted away by Eric Christian Olsen, the executive producer of Matlock, and others.

According to TMZ, Del Rio is alleged to have sexually assaulted the actress from the show Matlock while on Paramount Studios property.

Filming on the show continued after Del Rio left, and production should be back on track after Thanksgiving, according to Deadline.

Season two of Matlock will debut on October 12. 

On the show Matlock, Del Rio played the role of Martinez, a new lawyer at the made-up firm Jacobson Moore. Lewis portrays another new lawyer, Sarah Franklin.

Before being cast in Matlock, Leah Lewis voiced a lead character in Pixar’s 2023 film, Elemental. She’s also known for her roles in the Netflix series The Half Of It (2020) and The CW’s Nancy Drew, which aired from 2019 to 2023.

In September 2024, Lewis spoke about her costar Del Rio with Us Weekly.

Matlock, starring Oscar winner Kathy Bates, is a new take on the classic legal drama originally featuring Andy Griffith from 1986 to 1995. Bates plays the lead attorney, Madeline Matlock, alongside Beau Bridges and Jason Ritter.

The show centers around Madeline Matlock, who returns to work at a high-profile law firm. There, she cleverly solves cases and uncovers corruption.

The new version of Matlock premiered last year and was quickly renewed for another season – in fact, after only two episodes of the first season aired!

Bates has been widely praised for her performance and has won numerous awards, along with several nominations.

You might recognize him from so many great projects – he was fantastic in *Pitch Perfect* and *Grease Live*, and I really enjoyed him in *A California Christmas* and *The Baker and the Beauty*. Del Rio shared a sweet message on Instagram in late July, celebrating 12 years with his girlfriend. He wrote, ‘From the moment you said yes… the journey continues. I love you, Flower Child!’
