Silent Night Deadly Night Director Reveals Dream Remakes of Cult Classic Horrors

Mike P. Nelson, the director known for V/H/S/85, is thinking about his next projects now that his recent remake is proving popular. His new film, releasing in December, is a remake of a 1984 classic and currently has an 85% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Nelson is eager to reimagine other beloved cult films as well.

Silent Night, Deadly Night Director Would Love to Remake Two Forgotten Films

When I think about a movie I’d love to revisit, it’s actually *Last Action Hero*, which is a bit surprising because it’s not a horror film—though I’d love to incorporate horror elements. It feels like a perfect creative playground, and I’m not sure I could ever find another project I’d enjoy as much. I could watch it for hours when I was growing up and always wanted it to continue. I have this idea of bringing in *Night of the Living Dead*, with the action moving to New York City. I mentioned it to Benedict, and he just hinted at the possibilities, which was frustrating! But that movie really has endless potential.

Nelson expressed his fondness for the Jane Fonda film *Race with the Devil*. He mentioned he’d love to revisit lesser-known movies, and when he suggests this, people often seem confused. He clarified he’s thinking of *Race with the Devil*, describing it as a simple horror film focused on a car chase – something he’d really enjoy working on.

In Mike P. Nelson’s film *Silent Night, Deadly Night*, Billy experiences a traumatic Christmas Eve when he sees his parents murdered by Santa Claus. Years later, he spends each Christmas enacting the same violence against others. As of today, the film has an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 13 reviews, despite being released a few months from now.

Silent Night, Deadly Night opens in limited theaters on Dec. 12.
