The fighting in *Demon Slayer* is constantly getting more complex, moving past just different breathing styles. Now, Demon Slayers have access to broader techniques to help them win battles, and the Demon Slayer Mark is a key example. We saw this mark become especially important in Season 3, where Mitsuri Kanroji and Muichiro Tokito relied on it heavily during their fights against the Upper Rank Demons.
Currently, only a small number of characters in *Demon Slayer* have displayed this special Mark. Some, like Kyojuro Rengoku and Shinobu Kocho, passed away before they had the chance. This leaves a few remaining Demon Slayers who might develop the Mark in the upcoming movies. Given the immense power of the Upper Moons, it would be beneficial for all potential candidates to gain this ability to ensure the Demon Slayer Corps wins the final battle.
Kanao Tsuyuri Needs a Major Power-Up to Survive Against Doma

Kanao Tsuyuri is a bit of an unknown factor in *Demon Slayer* because we haven’t seen much of her fighting ability. She was trained in Flower Breathing by Kanae and Shinobu, just like Kanae when she was a Hashira, but Kanao hasn’t really been tested in battle yet. She’s likely around the same skill level as Tanjiro’s friends, but based on what’s happened so far in the story, she doesn’t seem quite ready to become a Hashira herself.
Considering how difficult the Upper Moons are for even the strongest Demon Slayers, Kanao will need additional skills or equipment before she can face Doma, Upper Moon 2. She’ll likely need help from others, like Zenitsu or Inosuke, and relying solely on Flower Breathing probably won’t be enough.
Genya Can’t Hurt an Upper Moon With Repetitive Action Alone
Genya Shinazugawa couldn’t perform standard Demon Slayer breathing techniques, so he made up for it with his unique ability to repeat actions quickly and by using a sawed-off shotgun. While this clever combination helped him during the fight against Hantengu, the Upper Moon 4 in *Demon Slayer* Season 3, it wasn’t enough to win. Genya could only manage to injure Hantengu and stay in the fight himself.
With the entire Demon Slayer Corps battling an Upper Moon demon and no sunrise coming to their rescue, Genya faces a much tougher fight than before. While his unique demon abilities and shotgun are helpful, he’ll need to unlock a Demon Slayer Mark to stand a chance against enemies far stronger than Hantengu.
Inosuke Is on Fraud Watch Until He Levels Up
Inosuke Hashibira deserves a lot of recognition for creating Beast Breathing and pushing his body to its absolute limit. This allowed him to survive and excel in battles against opponents like Enmu and Daki. However, he might soon encounter challenges he can’t easily overcome. While Inosuke is currently the strongest swordsman he’s ever been, the remaining Upper Rank Demons are far more powerful than anything he’s fought before.
Inosuke appeared strong and aggressive during his scenes in the *Infinity Castle* movie, which usually works well against common demons. However, Doma and Kokushibo are far more powerful opponents. Unless Inosuke unlocks a Demon Slayer Mark or masters the Transparent World technique, he’ll be severely outmatched when facing these two high-ranking Upper Moon Demons.
Giyu Has Yet to Realize His Full Potential as the Water Hashira
Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira, isn’t the weakest of the group, but he struggles with confidence. He’s felt like a fraud ever since passing the final selection, and still feels guilt and sadness over a past tragedy. He now believes Tanjiro should take his place, though it might be too soon to consider that.
Wow, Giyu really pushed through to finish his battle with Tanjiro, but it was a tough one! If he’s going to keep fighting in this war against Muzan, I think he *needs* to unlock a Demon Slayer Mark and take his Water Breathing to the next level. He’s a Hashira, and he deserves to prove just how strong he really is!
Murata Needs a Demon Slayer Mark to Be Relevant Whatsoever
The anime *Demon Slayer* includes some supporting characters whose main purpose is to highlight the strengths of the heroes, and Murata is one of them. He’s a relatively minor character, so many *Demon Slayer* fans might not remember his name or the style of breathing he uses. Those who pay close attention will remember that Murata, like Tanjiro and Giyu, utilizes Water Breathing.
While Murata likely won’t win against the Upper Moon demons on his own like Muichiro did, he can still be a valuable asset in the final battle if he works with the team. Since Muichiro hasn’t learned many Water Breathing techniques and doesn’t have much time to learn more, the Demon Slayer Mark is the most effective way to increase his strength and help him fight Muzan and the Upper Moons.
Zenitsu Still Needs to Awaken His Full Potential

I’ve been really watching Zenitsu Agatsuma grow throughout *Demon Slayer*. He’s come a long way from being the scared guy we first met! Now, he’s a truly powerful fighter, using Thunder Breathing to defeat even some of the stronger demons. It’s amazing to see how much he’s improved and how confident he’s become.
Zenitsu is a surprisingly effective and speedy fighter, despite only mastering the first and a self-taught seventh form of Thunder Breathing. While he doesn’t fight with the same forceful energy as Inosuke, he’s become one of Tanjiro’s fastest allies. However, even his quick, zigzagging attacks might not be enough to defeat powerful demons like Doma or Kokushibo, meaning a Demon Slayer Mark is now his greatest need.
Obanai Will Be a Perfect Match for Mitsuri After Getting His Own Demon Slayer Mark
Obanai Iguro, the serious and powerful Serpent Hashira, is one of the remaining Hashira who is fit for battle. He’s been very confident since his introduction, and like Sanemi, he believes only the Hashira are capable of fighting Muzan’s strongest demons in the coming fight.
Now’s Obanai’s chance to truly impress *Demon Slayer* fans by showcasing the versatility of Serpent Breathing. Simply defeating weaker demons isn’t enough anymore; he needs to prove his strength against the remaining Upper Rank Demons, ideally by defeating one himself. Considering the battles with Akaza and Doma in *Infinity Castle*, earning a Demon Slayer Mark could significantly increase his chances of success.
Sanemi Can’t Live Up to His Big Words Without the Demon Slayer Mark
Sanemi Shinazugawa, a fiercely passionate member of the Hashira, is a top-level demon slayer who needs to step up during the final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji. Currently, like his comrade Obanai, Sanemi underestimates other demon slayers who aren’t Hashira, but hasn’t proven himself effective against any of the stronger demons—the Lower or Upper Moons.
Sanemi has missed his opportunity to impress with battles against weaker demons, so his upcoming fight is his biggest, and most dangerous, chance to prove himself to *Demon Slayer* fans. He’s about to face the strongest demons, and his usual fighting style probably won’t be enough. While he might have a few surprises, Sanemi will likely need to unlock a special ability, like a Demon Slayer Mark or the Transparent World, if he wants to survive.
Gyomei Himejima’s Next Power-Up Holds the Key to Defeating Muzan

Many fans of the *Demon Slayer* anime believe Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Hashira, is the oldest and strongest of the current Hashira. Despite this, he hasn’t had much screen time fighting yet, only briefly demonstrating his Stone Breathing technique during the attack on Muzan. Recently, viewers finally got a glimpse of his unique Nichirin sword in action, and are eager to see more of his combat skills.
Gyomei is unique among the Hashira in that he might not *need* a Demon Slayer Mark to be effective, but he shouldn’t become overconfident. Every demon slayer is at a disadvantage against Muzan Kibutsuji, so Gyomei needs to be as prepared as possible to avenge Kagaya Ubuyashiki.
