Charlene White, a presenter on the show Loose Women, shared the heartbreaking news that her father, Denniston, died by suicide. She encouraged her followers to cherish their parents and hold them close.
The panellist, 45, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on Friday in an emotional statement.
She shared that two weeks ago, their lives were shattered. Their father had been secretly struggling with deep sadness for some time, and tragically, he decided to end his life.
He had a life filled with love – truly, an abundance of it. But even with all that good in his life, he struggled with inner darkness. Sadly, and like he often did, he kept his struggles private. That was just typical of our dad.
We, his family, have decided to openly share the details of our loss. We believe that suppressing our emotions – the hurt, pain, shock, and grief – isn’t helpful, especially for those of us who are grieving.

We know this news might encourage many of you to reach out, and we appreciate your support. Please understand if we can’t respond to every message or call right away. We’re still processing this difficult time and learning how to cope.
Make sure to hug your parents and tell them you love them often. That’s what children are meant to do – to love them, no matter what challenges they face or where life takes them, even if things get really difficult.
We’re so grateful to have each other, because it’s hard to imagine getting through each day without that support. We’ve also been incredibly touched by the love and help of our large family and wonderful friends over the last two weeks.
Sunday was incredible. We held a traditional Jamaican Nine Night to honor and remember our loved one, and honestly, the ancestors were right – it was exactly what we needed. It was a beautiful release of grief, filled with amazing food, dancing, and even joy, surrounded by hundreds of our closest friends and family. The best part? Our incredible community of friends and family organized the whole thing. I feel so incredibly blessed to have them in my life.
Denniston was a wonderful father figure to so many – not just his own children, but stepchildren, and others he mentored as a friend. He was also a loving husband, brother, grandfather, uncle, and cousin. We’re all grieving and taking things one day at a time.

It has been a difficult year for Charlene, who has also lost her best friend Darrell.
During a February episode of Loose Women, Charlene became emotional while talking about the loss of her partner, Darrell, who died from Sarcoma cancer.
I was so moved when the presenter shared his personal story. He’s teamed up with Sarcoma UK to really get the word out about this illness, and I think it’s fantastic. It’s inspiring to see him using his platform to raise awareness and support such an important cause.
Last week, she shared a heartfelt message on social media honoring her longtime friend, Darrell (@djoptic), who is battling sarcoma cancer. She spoke about his fight against the disease.
Early Saturday morning, after a four-and-a-half-year battle with his diagnosis and a week spent saying goodbye to loved ones and sharing cherished memories, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife, Amy, and their children, Maya and Theo.
We’ve been like brothers ever since we first met when we were sixteen. I was honored to be his best man at his wedding, and I’m godmother to his oldest child.
We had so much fun together when we were younger, and he was always a part of everything important to me. I’m absolutely devastated by his loss.
He was truly one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. Even while undergoing treatment, he dedicated himself to raising awareness about Sarcoma, working with @sarcoma_uk so other families wouldn’t have to face the same struggles. He focused on educating others, raising money, and increasing awareness – he was simply incredible.
My wife, @mrsamymcdonald, is truly an incredible person – honestly, she’s better than all of us. I’ve been so impressed watching her over the last four years. I just wish I could take away her pain, because right now, life feels incredibly unfair.
I’m going back to work today, mostly because I’m at a loss for what else to do. Dealing with grief can be really disorienting.
