Joe Keery, known for playing Steve Harrington in Stranger Things, has responded to fans jokingly calling him a “mother” on the show. Netflix posted a video on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, showing actor Joe Keery reacting to a funny comment. The comment described his character, Steve Harrington, as a hardworking “single mom” who cares deeply for his “kids.”

Joe Keery has observed that fans picked up on his protective role with the younger cast of Stranger Things, especially when he was driving them around. He described himself as ‘looking after everybody,’ and fans playfully started calling him the ‘mother’ figure of the group.

The actor from Free Guy also explained that the nickname has stayed with him, seeing it as proof of how much fans embraced the character and created their own content around it. His Stranger Things castmates have also participated in the fun, pointing out how often Harrington acts like a father figure.

A TikTok video from three years ago showed footage of the show’s cast at a San Diego Comic-Con panel. In the video, someone makes a crude joke about Finn Wolfhard’s name. Wolfhard appears slightly bothered, and the video then shows Joe Keery seemingly advising him to ignore the comment.

Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas Sinclair on the show, reacted to the video, writing, “Joes really Mom bro. Truly an inspiration.”

Years earlier, David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, posted a photo of Joe Keery on Instagram for Father’s Day and simply wrote, “Happy Father’s Day.” Fans playfully responded with “Happy Mother’s Day” in the comments.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be released on Netflix in three parts. The first two parts will be available on November 26th and December 25th, 2025, with the final part premiering on December 31st, 2025.
