Teen Mom’s Farrah Abraham slammed for gleefully watching teen daughter get gigantic bat tattoo on pelvis

Farrah Abraham is receiving a lot of criticism online after getting a large tattoo on her 16-year-old daughter Sophia’s pelvic area.

The Teen Mom star posted videos on Instagram Thursday showing her daughter, Sophia, getting a belly button tattoo featuring two lines of bats. Many viewers expressed their disapproval.

Okay, so I’ve been following Sophia for *ages*, and her mom, Farrah, is… a lot. Honestly, she caused a huge uproar before when Sophia got her septum pierced at thirteen, people were *mad*. But seeing these new clips? Farrah looked absolutely thrilled! Sophia was rocking this amazing goth glam look – full white makeup, so cool – and was getting a tattoo while lying down. It’s just… Farrah was beaming, like she was so proud. It’s a little much for me, honestly, but I can’t look away!

Farrah hinted online that Sophia might be pregnant, pointing out the teen was holding her stomach. However, followers quickly reacted negatively, criticizing Farrah in the comments.

One commenter questioned the parenting, stating, “Is this really how you raise a child?” They pointed out the daughter is sixteen, and seemed to imply Farrah is also acting like a teenager.

Another asked, ‘Isn’t she a kid?’ while a third added, ’16 I think… she’s too young for a tattoo.’ 

One follower warned, ‘Permanent decisions shouldn’t be made until you’re an adult.’

Some viewers believed the woman was deliberately pushing Farrah’s boundaries as a way to get attention and see how much she could get away with, but Farrah doesn’t seem to recognize this behavior. They expressed frustration that Farrah isn’t understanding the situation.

Of course, Farrah also had her defenders. 

Someone commented that the teen had her parent’s permission, and they were glad she didn’t have to hide it, as many teenagers do.

Someone else agreed, saying they’d prefer children to come to them if they had any, to ensure everything was done safely.

Farrah’s recent actions have ignited another intense discussion about how to raise teenagers and give them appropriate independence, with people expressing a wide range of opinions – from surprise to approval.

In February 2022, Sophia celebrated her thirteenth birthday and shared on social media that she had gotten a septum piercing.

Sophia, known from the MTV shows 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom, shared a video of a medical procedure on her Instagram account.

‘I got my septum piercing for my birthday!!’ the thrilled teenager wrote in her caption.

She continued writing, excitedly sharing that she was thrilled with her new septum piercing! She’s the first in her family to get one, and it happened on her 13th birthday – a dream come true!

The septum piercing wasn’t the first time Farrah’s parenting choices sparked backlash. 

A few years before, people had complained when Sophia wore a crop top, feeling it was inappropriate for her age and that the reality star was growing up too fast.

Farrah was a high school senior when she found out she was pregnant with her daughter, Sophia. Her experience was featured on an episode of the MTV show 16 and Pregnant.

She later became a star on the network’s show, Teen Mom, which was later known as Teen Mom OG.

Sophia’s father, Derek Underwood, passed away in a car accident on December 28, 2008, before she was born. Her mother, Farrah, was pregnant at the time of his death, meaning he never had the chance to meet his daughter.

In her 2012 memoir, Farrah wrote about the shock of Derek’s death, recalling how she struggled to process the news. She described him as the father of her child and her one true love, lamenting that his passing had also destroyed any hope for a happy future for them both.

Farrah has continued to honor Derek’s memory over the years. 

In 2017, she honored the anniversary of his death with a touching Instagram post. She wrote about how December 28th is a day for remembering their loving memories and sharing stories about how wonderful Derek was, and how his special qualities were passed down to their daughter, Sophia.

Although Sophia never met her dad, she has visited his grave. 

In a 2019 Instagram post, she expressed gratitude for her mother consistently bringing her to visit her father, and for her family sharing memories of him. She wished she could have known him personally, and shared her love and appreciation for her father, Derek, feeling his continued presence in her life.

Back in 2016, the Teen Mom alum told People she was weighing the idea of homeschooling Sophia. 

Farrah excitedly shared that she believes her daughter will be intelligent and beautiful – everything she ever hoped for in a child. She added that navigating high school with all of that just means dealing with a lot of unnecessary drama.

By the following year, Farrah confirmed to In Touch that Sophia had started homeschooling. 

She clarified that the story isn’t primarily about issues like bullying or dating. Instead, it centers on her character’s academic pursuits and her desire to travel while in school. She’s also increasingly focused on runway modeling and will be participating in New York Fashion Week.

‘She has a lot going on and this just helps her be the better her.’
