Why a Friends sequel would be “physically impossible” for Jennifer Aniston as she rules out return

Jennifer Aniston has said a reunion of the show *Friends* is now out of the question, explaining that it would be too difficult following the passing of Matthew Perry.

The actress, famous for her role as Rachel Green on the popular TV show that aired from 1994 to 2004, has dismissed the idea of revisiting the character. According to Harper’s Bazaar, she stated that a sequel is “literally, physically impossible.”

Although another season isn’t planned, Jennifer Aniston has thought about how much the show means to younger viewers, many of whom find it comforting even with its imperfections.

She explained that many viewers find comfort in rewatching the show, using episodes of *Friends* as a way to relax when they feel overwhelmed by current events. She considers this the highest praise a show could receive.

Jennifer Aniston fondly remembers filming the show on Stage 24, the main sound stage, calling it a truly joyful experience.

“It completely formed who I was. It was pure joy,” she said.

I genuinely loved going to work each day. I was always excited to see my colleagues and get my hands on the scripts. Every Friday night, as soon as filming wrapped, a new script for the following Monday would be waiting for me in my dressing room.

“I was just as excited to find out what was going to happen as I’m sure the audience was.”

Jennifer Aniston starred alongside Matthew Perry, who played Chandler, as well as Courteney Cox as Monica, Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe, David Schwimmer as Ross, and Matt LeBlanc as Joey.

The main cast of *Friends* came together again in 2021 for a special reunion show, *Friends: The Reunion*. Sadly, this was the last time they all appeared together publicly before the death of Matthew Perry in October 2023.

Perry accidentally drowned after taking ketamine, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the overdose and his death.

It really got to me hearing about all the struggles Matthew went through. He was so open about his addiction, and it just breaks my heart knowing how much he battled privately.

Despite struggling with a lot inside, he found a lot of joy in life, and that’s what truly mattered to him.

All 10 seasons of Friends are available to watch on Netflix.
