Superman 2: New Photo Sparks Major DC Superhero Cameo Rumors

A recent photo suggests an actor from the DC Universe might reprise their role in the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, and they appear to be in incredible shape. DC Studios head James Gunn announced that Man of Tomorrow, a follow-up to his Superman film, will be released in theaters on July 9, 2027. So far, Gunn has officially confirmed only three cast members – David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. However, Man of Tomorrow is expected to feature the Justice Gang and other well-known DCU characters, as Gunn has indicated the story will continue with characters audiences have already been introduced to.

Aaron Pierre, who plays Green Lantern (John Stewart) in the DC Universe, didn’t appear in the recent *Superman* movie. However, his story will be explored in the HBO series *Lanterns*, coming in early 2026. Pierre hinted he might also return for the *Man of Tomorrow* film, which is scheduled to begin production around April, responding with a simple “Yes, indeed,” and a green heart emoji to the movie’s announcement.

Although James Gunn and Aaron Pierre haven’t officially said if Aaron Pierre will play John Stewart in the upcoming film, he’s been showing off a noticeably more muscular physique. A recent shirtless mirror selfie he posted online (shared by Cosmic Marvel) really emphasizes his impressive muscle definition.

In the HBO series *Lanterns*, Pierre will play new Green Lantern John Stewart, alongside Kyle Chandler as the experienced space lawman Hal Jordan. The show will primarily focus on John Stewart’s journey, with the 31-year-old actor taking the lead role.

The choice of 60-year-old actor Chandler to play a role has worried some fans, who fear his character might die early in the story. If that happens, John Stewart would become the main Green Lantern in the DC Universe, alongside Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, who will appear for the third time in the upcoming film, *Lanterns*.
