Victoria Beckham has revealed that her fashion brand experienced significant financial difficulties, resulting in losses exceeding £66 million.
The 51-year-old designer launched her fashion label in 2008 with a small collection of dresses.
Victoria Beckham’s fashion line quickly expanded to include items like handbags, coats, and shoes. However, due to overspending, the business started losing money, and she needed financial help from her husband, David Beckham, to cover the losses.
After 15 years, she turned a profit in 2023, thanks to a combination of factors: an £890 handbag, a £30 eyeliner, and a well-planned social media strategy. Specifically, her makeup tutorial videos on TikTok are believed to have been key to this positive change.
In her new Netflix series, David Belhassen, a businessman who invested in her struggling company, revealed that he also helped her get her spending under control.
In one shock admission he revealed the designer was spending £85,000 just on plants for the office.

David thought to himself how much his wife loved plants – so much so that they were costing her £70,000 annually. On top of that, she was paying someone £15,000 a year just to water them, and that was just the start of the expenses!
I went to see her and decided to be completely honest, not knowing how she would respond.
I told Victoria that we needed to completely overhaul the business, and that it would be a difficult process. After I finished speaking, she remained silent for a moment before leaving.
Victoria admitted it was difficult to hear those criticisms, but she accepted them. She pointed out that her background was in entertainment, not business school.
‘I didn’t realise it at the time but the waste was mind-blowing.
I really went all out – I had fifteen different fabrics to line her coats, and I even arranged for unusual items, like decorative chairs, to be shipped from all over the globe.
Hearing about it now is awful, and I realize I let it happen. I think people were too scared to disagree with me, and that was a big part of the issue.
‘There’s a power to be honest, the power of celebrity. People thought I wasn’t used to hearing no.’

David, her husband, remembered the worry he felt as he watched his wife’s business struggle and its finances decline, especially after he’d invested a lot of money in it.
‘It made me panic, David confessed. ‘I was panicked by it because I never saw anything coming back.
We always promised to have each other’s backs, but I was concerned it wouldn’t last. It just didn’t seem realistic long-term.
Victoria added: ‘There was a lot of waste, we were millions of pounds in the red.
‘I didn’t know what to do and I was so desperate to save this business that I cared so much about.
I was completely falling apart and felt incredibly ashamed. It felt like I was trapped in a hopeless situation, sinking deeper and deeper with no way out.
David continued thinking about their financial discussions, saying it was painful to hear Victoria talk about money, as she’s a very proud person.
When Victoria and I first got together, she had significantly more money than I did. She purchased our first home, Beckingham Mansion, in Hertfordshire.
It was difficult for both of us when she had to ask me for more money, especially because I simply didn’t have it to continue supporting things.

A friend of Victoria’s shared that she was thrilled her business had become profitable, especially because it happened before her 50th birthday.
A friend shared with the Daily Mail that it feels like a double celebration, and Victoria is thrilled.
Auditors had already cautioned that the company might fail unless its shareholders – including the Beckhams and Neo Investment Partners – provided more funding.
Over the last 15 years, the luxury brand has received over £30 million in loans from other companies owned by the Beckhams.
However, 2022’s results marked ‘a turning point where the group became profitable’.
Revenue surged 44 per cent to £58.8 million that year compared to £40.9 million in 2021.
Victoria recently told Vogue France that her brand is now profitable. She expressed excitement about the future, stating, ‘This is just the beginning – I have big plans and I’m dedicated to making them happen.’
She continued, explaining that she doesn’t believe in waiting for luck. She’s really excited about the progress they’ve made, especially because they finally turned a profit this year. Building a successful, independent brand takes dedication and time, and she’s proud to fully own her perfume line – it’s not just a licensed product.
‘Now that I have laid down the groundwork for the house, the real work can begin.’

Victoria Beckham’s new Netflix show is created by the same team behind the popular documentaries *Beckham* and *Becoming*, building on the success of her husband David’s recent docuseries.
The documentary explores her fashion brand and follows her preparations for her Paris Fashion Week show last September.
As a huge fan, I was thrilled to see David Beckham’s Netflix documentary do so well last year – and it was lovely to see Victoria featured in it too! They’ve been married since 1999, and it’s amazing how successful they both are.
David shared that it took some convincing to get Victoria to participate in the new documentary, but he praised her as incredibly dedicated and intelligent, adding that everyone should see her work ethic.
Victoria Beckham is streaming on Netflix now.
