Okay, so I’m really excited to hear that Denis Villeneuve is planning to finish the *Dune* saga before potentially taking on James Bond! Apparently, he’s aiming to release *Dune: Part Three* in 2026, which will cover the events of Frank Herbert’s *Dune Messiah*. It’s great news that Rebecca Ferguson is returning as Lady Jessica – she’s talked about how much she enjoys working with Villeneuve on these films, and I can’t wait to see what they create together for the final installment.
Rebecca Ferguson recently shared with Indiewire that she’s finished filming her scenes for *Dune: Part Three*, which follows her new film *A House of Dynamite*, hitting theaters this Friday and Netflix on October 24th. She noted that her role in the third *Dune* movie will be smaller than in the previous two films.
My role in this film isn’t very large, as the character I play isn’t a huge part of the story. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure I’d be included – it was Denis’ idea to add me. But the script itself is amazing. Adapting this book into a movie is incredibly challenging; there’s just so much material to cover. Denis really tries to stay true to the source material, weaving in connections and details from the book whenever he can. And honestly, everything Denis works on turns out brilliantly.
Jessica doesn’t appear in the novel *Dune Messiah* because she went back to Caladan while her son, Paul, remained on Arrakis to govern. But director Denis Villeneuve managed to include Rebecca Ferguson, who plays Jessica, in the film adaptation, and she seems pleased with how he did it. It will be interesting to see what her role is and how much time she gets to share the screen with Timothée Chalamet, who plays Paul.

Rebecca Ferguson received a Dune 2 question she didn’t know the answer to. Instead of guessing, she quickly texted director Denis Villeneuve for help.
Rebecca Ferguson Shares A Hilarious Concern She Had About Dune 2, And How She Resolved It
Rebecca Ferguson is likely to have a significant role if the next book in the series, *Children of Dune*, is made into a film, following *Dune Messiah*. However, Denis Villeneuve won’t be directing it. Given the success of the *Dune* movies for Warner Bros. and Legendary, they’ll probably want to continue the series even after Villeneuve steps down. If Ferguson agrees to appear in *Children of Dune*, it will be interesting to hear her thoughts on working with a new director for this franchise.
For the third *Dune* film, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, and Anya Taylor-Joy are returning to their roles. New to the cast are Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke, who will play Paul and Chani’s children, Leto II and Ghanima, and Robert Pattinson, who has a role that hasn’t been revealed yet. Like the second film, Denis Villeneuve worked with Jon Spaihts to write the script.
The third Dune movie, *Dune: Part Three*, is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026, the same day as *Avengers: Doomsday*. If you subscribe to HBO Max, you can watch the first two Dune films and the *Dune: Prophecy* TV series at any time.
