The popular historical drama *A Thousand Blows*, starring Stephen Graham, is returning for a second season. Disney+ has announced the new season will premiere almost a year after the first, and has released some first-look images.
This series, from the creator of *Peaky Blinders*, Steven Knight, explores the gritty world of 19th-century bare-knuckle boxing in London’s East End. It tells the story of two friends from Jamaica as they climb the ranks, and also follows the exploits of a notorious all-female gang known as the Forty Elephants.
The streaming service announced that all six episodes of season two will be released on January 9, 2026. New official photos featuring the returning cast – Graham, Erin Doherty, and Malachi Kirby as Henry ‘Sugar’ Goodson, Mary Carr, and Hezekiah Moscow – are available below.
What to Read Next
The new episodes pick up a year after the events of season one. Boxer Hezekiah is struggling, a far cry from his former self, and Sugar, who controls the boxing scene, is battling personal demons – he’s cut off from his family and increasingly reliant on alcohol.
With Wapping on the verge of collapse, Mary Carr returns with her trusted ally, Alice Diamond, to gather her crew and take back control. The synopsis reveals Mary always has a plan, and this one is her most dangerous yet, putting everyone she loves at risk.

Season 2 will feature Ned Dennehy, known for his role in *Peaky Blinders*, as Bull Jeremy, and Catherine McCormack, from *Slow Horses*, as Sophie Lyons.
The new series, *A Thousand Blows*, has been well-received, earning an 88% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 43 reviews. *Variety* praised it as a “masterful” show.

Knight tells a captivating story about a group of underdogs fighting for recognition, using the history of boxing – from its rough beginnings as bare-knuckle fighting to the modern sport – as a backdrop.

According to *iNews*, fans of *Peaky Blinders* should enjoy this boxing story, which is set in the style of Charles Dickens. The publication also praised the show for being original and not simply copying other works.
I’m really hooked on *A Thousand Blows*! If you loved *Peaky Blinders* like I did, you’ll probably enjoy this too. It’s set in a period a lot of us know a little about, but the show dives into the details you wouldn’t normally hear about. *The People’s Movies* said the same thing – it’s a really engaging drama!
Season 2 of A Thousand Blows will debut on Disney+ on January 9, 2026. You can currently stream the first season on Disney+.
