Nicholas Hoult won’t be able to attend New York Comic Con this year. He was scheduled to join James McAvoy and Elliot Page for an X-Men reunion, but he’s recovering from knee surgery and doctors have advised him to stay home and rest.

Nicholas Hoult shared a video on NYCC’s Instagram explaining that he unfortunately can’t attend the event. He recently had knee surgery and is still recovering, making it impossible for him to travel at this time.

The actor shared his regret about what happened and offered an apology. He then wished everyone a great weekend, expressing his hope to reconnect with them soon.

New York Comic Con sent Nicholas Hoult their best wishes for a quick recovery after he had to cancel his appearance. They announced that anyone who bought autographs or photo opportunities in advance would receive a refund, and expressed hope he’ll be able to attend a future event.

Nicholas Hoult is widely recognized for playing Beast (Hank McCoy) in the X-Men films, starting with X-Men: First Class in 2011. He’s continued to play the character in subsequent movies. More recently, he’s gained praise for his portrayal of Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman.
