Kacey Musgraves and Carín León’s new music video for “Lost in Translation” relies more on feeling than words, blending the cultures of Texas and Sonora.
Released in August, the song explores how close relationships can overcome language barriers and geographical boundaries.
The new video features the couple playfully exploring the lively, less-traveled streets of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Throughout the video of the musicians dancing and expressing their affection for each other, there are also glimpses of local life: young people in bright clothing enjoying nature, older men playing cards, and young adults performing dances.
Kacey Musgraves shared in a statement that Mexican music has deeply influenced her as an artist and played a vital role in shaping her sound.
Carín León will make history as the first Latino artist to perform at the venue, headlining the city’s Mexican Independence Day celebrations from September 11th to 13th, 2026.
I grew up singing classic country music, and I’ve always been fascinated by how it connects with other genres, especially Norteño and regional Mexican music – sounds I heard a lot while growing up in Texas.
The song was recorded after the two singers started warming up by performing a favorite tune of León’s: “Fue Un Placer Conocerte” by Juan Gabriel and Rocío Dúrcal.
× This isn’t the first time León has worked on a bilingual project. He previously collaborated with Kane Brown on their 2024 song “The One (Pero No Como Yo)” and with Leon Bridges on “It Was Always You (Siempre Fuiste Tú),” also released in 2024.
León will make history next year as the first Latino artist to headline a concert at Las Vegas’ Sphere. The Mexican singer will perform three shows as part of the city’s Mexican Independence Day festivities on September 11th, 12th, and 13th, 2026.
Kacey Musgraves is a longtime supporter of Mexican music. She recently performed the classic ranchera song “Tú, Solo Tú” with Mariachi Oro de América during a concert in Mexico City.

Carin León explains why Mexican music is gaining mainstream popularity beyond its traditional regions, and shares his appreciation for both Grupo Frontera and the city of Nashville.
Kacey Musgraves shared a heartfelt message on Instagram expressing her deep admiration for the Mexican community. She praised their passion, dedication, and strength, saying she was moved to tears by her appreciation for them. She also mentioned being inspired by the Ranchera tradition and looked forward to celebrating with a carne asada.
In 2019, the singer known as High Horse performed a rendition of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez’s popular song, “Como La Flor,” at the Houston Rodeo.
She told the crowd at NRG Stadium in Houston that she loved Selena just as much as they did, and encouraged everyone to sing along loudly to honor her.
