Ruth Jones reveals she impressed Harry Styles with her singing as she recalls partying together at James Corden’s raucous birthday bash

Ruth Jones shared that she sang and impressed Harry Styles at their friend James Corden’s lively 40th birthday party back in 2018.

James, age 47, was remembering a large party he had with his family and friends in Mexico when he recently chatted with his former Gavin & Stacey co-star, Ruth.

The couple enjoyed a fun night out laughing at the book launch event for ‘When Gavin Met Stacey And Everything In Between’ at the Palladium. The book comes out on Thursday.

James shared that his friend Ruth, 59, unexpectedly wowed everyone with her singing, even leaving Harry, a close friend of James, amazed.

Oh my gosh, James is just the sweetest! He was telling me about how his wife, Julia, completely blew him away with a surprise 40th birthday trip to Mexico! Apparently, she secretly contacted Ruth to help with everything. He hadn’t seen Ruth in ages because he was living somewhere else at the time, but Julia made it all happen. I’m seriously obsessed with them as a couple – it’s so romantic!

Ruth shared that Julia invited both her and her husband to a surprise 40th birthday party for James. She was really surprised to see so many of James’s old school friends there.

James explained that his friends arrived with a Mariachi band, which was incredible. Jules then announced there was one more surprise guest. When James saw who it was, he was completely shocked and overjoyed that they had made the effort to come.

We had an incredible weekend – easily one of the best ever. Ruth didn’t get me a gift in the traditional sense, but she gave me something even better.

I really wish I could have been at Ruth’s wedding! I heard she got up on stage and sang ‘Wild Thing’ while wearing a short dress – it sounds like it was amazing.

At my 40th birthday party, a small band was playing, and my friend Ruth went up to them and asked if they knew the song “Wild Thing.”

Oh my gosh, you guys, it was incredible! She stepped onto the stage and just *lost* herself in the song, like her whole world depended on hitting every note. Seriously, it was breathtaking. And then, after she finished, Harry Styles himself – *Harry Styles*! – actually asked her how she did it! He was completely stunned, and honestly, so was I. I just knew she was special, and he finally did too!

Considering this is his profession, it really highlights how remarkable his accomplishment was.

The actors who famously played Smithy and Nessa in the popular BBC comedy are reportedly creating new content, potentially for another special after their appearance in last Christmas’s finale.

I can’t believe it! They’re moving the show! It’s leaving the BBC – my BBC! – and going *exclusively* to AppleTV+. I mean, AppleTV+?! It’s a total shock, but honestly? I’ll follow it anywhere. Someone involved with the show has shared that filming will include 10 episodes, featuring a completely British cast, and both Corden and Jones will appear as actors.

Shooting will begin next year, with the episodes not set to land until 2027. 

The upcoming show won’t include the beloved characters from Gavin & Stacey.

Gavin and Stacey were played by Mathew Horne and Joanna Page. Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb portrayed Gavin’s parents, Pam and Mick, and Rob Brydon was Uncle Bryn. Melanie Walters played Stacey’s mother, Gwen, who was a widow.

According to a source at The Sun, there’s some good news for people in Britain after a difficult year: James and Ruth are collaborating on a new project.

‘As you might expect, it is uplifting, gentle and very funny. 

The creators aimed to deliver a heartwarming and engaging show that the whole family could enjoy – something that would spark conversations. The script quickly attracted a lot of attention and several companies competed to produce it. However, James already had a strong working relationship with AppleTV+, which gave them an advantage.

According to a source, they haven’t started choosing actors yet, but the new show will be different in style and content from Gavin & Stacey.

As a huge Gavin & Stacey fan, I was absolutely thrilled last Christmas when Smithy and Nessa *finally* got together! After all their back-and-forth, it was so heartwarming to see them admit their feelings and actually get married. It was the perfect ending to a perfect Christmas special!

The show concluded with a touching final scene. The sitcom, which first premiered in 2007 and last aired in 2019, ended with Nessa proposing to Smithy, leaving viewers on a cliffhanger.

In a behind-the-scenes documentary after the show aired, James Corden explained the reasons why *Gavin & Stacey* ended.

Honestly, I always *knew* they were meant to be! It all clicked for me during the first Christmas special, you know, when Dave proposed and Smithy blurted out, “Don’t marry him!”? That moment… it just felt like destiny. Like they *had* to end up together, no matter what. It was clear from then on, truly!

Honestly, the final line of this scene just gets me every time. He says, “I know it’s messy and not perfect, but that’s because *we’re* messy and not perfect.” It’s so relatable, acknowledging that life isn’t flawless and that’s okay. It feels so real and honest, like he’s speaking directly to all of us.
