Upcoming John Cena Movies, WWE Events And More

Even though John Cena was famous for his wrestling catchphrase, “You can’t see me,” we’ll be seeing much more of him on screen soon thanks to his upcoming movies and TV shows. Over the last ten years, the 16-time world champion has successfully transitioned from a WWE superstar to a leading actor in popular action films like the *Fast & Furious* series, memorable roles like Peacemaker in the DC universe, and comedies that showcase his talent for humor.

John Cena seems to be staying busy! He has several movies and TV shows planned, and he might even return to WWE before the end of the year. Here’s a rundown of what’s coming up…

Peacemaker Season 2 – 2025

It’s no surprise that *Peacemaker* is getting a second season, and John Cena will definitely return as Christopher Smith. The new season promises to be just as wild and entertaining as the first, which was a hit on Max and expanded on Cena’s role from *The Suicide Squad*. That’s great news for fans!

The second season of *Peacemaker* will bring back many of the actors from Season 1, plus a key character from *The Suicide Squad*. Now, the team is figuring out how these returning characters will fit into the show’s opening credits. James Gunn announced on Threads in September 2024 that the new season will premiere on Max in 2025, after *Superman* has finished airing.

Matchbox – TBD

Following his memorable role in the *Barbie* movie, John Cena is set to star in a new film based on the *Matchbox* toy cars. While details about the movie’s plot are still under wraps, Mattel Films and Apple have chosen Sam Hargrave, the director of *Extraction*, to helm the project, suggesting it will likely be an action-packed adventure.

We’ll be sharing more details about this project soon, including what it’s about and who else is joining the cast.

Heads Of State – TBD

Do you remember how great John Cena and Idris Elba were in *The Suicide Squad* a few summers ago? They’re teaming up again for a new action movie that’s been in development for a while, but Amazon Studios hasn’t said when it will be released. The Hollywood Reporter announced back in October 2020 that these two actors would be starring, though their roles haven’t been revealed.

In May 2023, Deadline reported that the movie project was still in development and adding stars like Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, and Sarah Niles to the cast. Although the story is being kept secret, the publication described the film as a blend of the action of *Air Force One* and the chase-movie excitement of *Midnight Run*.

In an April 2024 interview with Collider, Idris Elba called his upcoming movie, *Heads of State*, a really exciting adventure, and it’s definitely got people looking forward to it.

John Cena’s WWE Farewell Tour (January – December 2025)

Following his appearance at the main event of WrestleMania XL alongside numerous other stars, fans have been speculating about John Cena’s future in wrestling and whether it might be his last. Appearing on the *Pat McAfee Show* the day after WrestleMania in April 2024, Cena indicated he isn’t ready to retire just yet, saying he still feels capable of performing. He also stated he’s set a personal goal to continue wrestling until he turns 50 – he’s currently 47 years old.

In an August 2024 interview with Collider, John Cena announced he’s dedicating all of 2025 to WWE. He plans to kick off a worldwide farewell tour in January and conclude it in December, with a total of 36 performances. Given major events like the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 41 scheduled for next year, this could be a historic and final chapter in the wrestling star’s career.

Coyote Vs. Acme – TBD

There’s still a chance we might see the movie *Coyote vs. Acme*, even though Warner Bros. Discovery has considered canceling it. The film, a live-action/animated comedy, follows the classic Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote as he takes legal action against the Acme Corporation due to their products repeatedly failing him in his pursuit of the Road Runner. Until a final decision is made and the movie is securely stored away, there’s still hope for its release.

Hopefully, this movie will eventually be released so audiences can see John Cena face off against a lawyer from the Acme Corporation, while Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer (played by Will Forte) argues in court. We’re eager for both longtime Looney Tunes fans and new viewers to experience it.

The Janson Directive – TBD

John Cena is also involved in a long-gestating film project called *The Janson Directive*, based on Robert Ludlum’s 2002 novel. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was initially cast as the lead, but he left the project in 2018. Cena, who previously competed against Johnson in WWE, then took over the role. Johnson will still be involved as an executive producer for the film.

The story revolves around Paul Johnson, a former Navy SEAL and U.S. spy who is forced to flee after a mission fails. This type of role suits John Cena well, as he previously starred in the military action films *The Marine* (2006) and *The Wall* (2017). However, there haven’t been any recent updates on *The Janson Directive*, so we’ll need to revisit this project later.

Recently Released John Cena Movies And Shows

Okay, so everyone’s hyped for what John Cena’s doing next, both in movies and back in the wrestling ring, but I wanted to point out some really good stuff he already did earlier this year that you might have missed. Seriously, check those out if you get a chance!

The Simpsons Season 36 – September 29, 2024

John Cena’s quick appearance on *The Simpsons* in September 2024 was a standout moment for the show. During the Season 36 premiere, an animated Cena unexpectedly helped deliver Comic Book Guy’s baby. The scene was funny, charming, and surprisingly sweet, and Cena’s personality made it even better. His signature “You Can’t See Me” line at the very end, directed at the newborn, was the perfect finishing touch.

Jackpot – Released August 15, 2024

I was so excited to see John Cena and Awkwafina together in *Jackpot* this summer! It’s a hilarious and action-filled movie directed by Paul Feig. The story centers around an actress who’s down on her luck, but then wins a massive $3.6 billion lottery prize. To stay safe and actually *keep* the winnings, she hires a lottery protection agent – and John Cena is perfect in that role. It’s one of the most fun movies I’ve seen in a while!

This wildly funny comedy, complete with one of the most hilarious end credit scenes you’ll see, is a great way to spend an evening.

The Bear Season 3 – June 26, 2024

John Cena made a brief but memorable appearance in Season 3 of *The Bear* as Sammy Fak, Carmy’s large and somewhat irritating cousin. Though he’s only on screen for a few minutes, Sammy adds a lot to the show, mainly by playfully teasing his family about a memory card and hinting at a unique approach to the restaurant’s atmosphere. It’s a short scene, but it really works.

It’s possible this brief appearance could open the door for John Cena to have a more significant part in Season 4 of *The Bear* when it eventually airs.

Ricky Stanicky – Released March 7, 2024

After years of development, Peter Farrelly’s *Ricky Stanicky* was released in 2024, featuring John Cena in the lead role instead of the originally intended Jim Carrey. Cena was praised by critics as a standout performer, delivering a hilarious and exaggerated performance as the actor pretending to be the film’s characters’ imaginary best friend and convenient excuse for everything.

If you enjoy raunchy comedies and haven’t seen this one from March 2024, you’re missing out – definitely check it out!
